12th Planet
12th Planet
John started over from scratch. After seven years touring the world as drum-n-bass maestro Infiltrata, after winning over icons such as Goldie and Photek, John Dadzie gave himself a new name, a new sound, and a new determination. It was 2005 and the gentile beatmaker was inspired by sounds he heard spun by the likes Technical Itch, Skream and Benga. It was dubstep. And it was his calling. Once 12th Planet is born, the story really begins. The British dubstep movement takes hold in LA thanks to 12th Planet and the events he aligns himself with; Smog, Media Contender, HARD, and his own club night Dubtroit. Like the mythological twelfth planet (popularized by controversial author Zecharia Sitchin), our 12th Planet flies perpendicular to the system. His wicked beats are off axis. His subsonic frequencies surround you in their own orbit. America's first king of dubstep is ready for impact.
16 Bit Lolitas
16 Bit Lolitas
Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock had been making music on their own for some time before joining forces and becoming 16 Bit Lolitas in 2003. This collaboration quickly produced a wave of releases. Tracks such as The Puppet Show, Destiny, My Lexicon, Stereo Control and the epic Sednaa quickly followed on labels as diverse as Yoshitoshi, Alternative Route , Release, Sadie, Plastic Fantastic, Nu Repu
blic, Armada, Minimal, DK and LMR. They then decided to keep control of most of their material starting their own successful imprint “Bits & Pieces” shooting off club hit after hit. A hectic few years has propelled the boys into the spotlight where their crisp creations have carved out a sound that is both cool and sophisticated. It embraces all that is good about House music.
Peter and Ariaan consistently turn in tight productions that stand out in a crowded market place. Each piece of electronic music is patiently crafted and produced with emotion and care. It’s music that creates atmospheres as well as delivering a killer blow without the need of resorting to overused and obvious gimmicks.
At the end of 2008 the 16 Bit Lolitas released their first ultimate collection of music when they launched the “Live At Warung” mix album series, from Brazil’s ultimate Beach Club on Hope Recordings/Bits and Pieces. It featured upfront underground sounds, handpicked from across the globe to add a shimmer but also featured a large proportion (in fact one whole disc) of their own unreleased material. Why? Well speak to Ariaan about his DJ sets and he’ll tell you that they often write material just for this purpose, more than able to nail the mood required in the studio and then put their money where their mouth is at the club. Many DJs will play some of their own productions but not whole sets of it.
Above & Beyond
Above & Beyond
There are trance DJs who can rock a party, a club, a festival. And there are acts that can write songs that will bring out the goose bumps in you. But there’s only one band that can do both: Above & Beyond. This three piece have remixed Madonna, won Essential Mix of the Year, and played to one million people in Rio de Janeiro. More importantly they’ve written songs with the power and the melody to en-trance that one million-strong crowd, many of who were singing along, word for word.
Above & Beyond make music, pure and simple. That music happens to be electronic. And it connects. “We’re a group,” says Above & Beyond founder Tony McGuinness. “And what we’re trying to do is exactly do that, connect with people. You try and describe something in your own life, but in a way that will resonate with other people. When you see people singing along as passionately as they do, I guess you’re getting it right.” This makes Above & Beyond unique, not just in trance, but in popular music as well. “We like to think of ourselves as songwriters first,” says Paavo Siljamaki, who with Jono Grant makes up the trio. “That’s our approach to music. The most challenging thing is to write a song that really touches the listener.”
Above & Beyond are not people who like to do things by halves. Witness their latest release, ‘Anjunabeats 100’ – a collection of the very best tracks from their universally respected Anjunabeats label. The album also includes a DVD documentary, which captures the two shows the band played over Christmas and New Year 2007. First they travelled to Goa, India, the spiritual home of trance and their label Anjunabeats, to play an unforgettable sunset set at an open-air beach festival. Days later they flew to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, another stronghold of the international trance sound, to headline a New Year’s Eve show on Barra de Tijuca beach – in front of one million people. Dressed in the traditional white of Brazilian New Year, Above & Beyond captivated Rio with a set that was truly magical. Many of that crowd were fans who had travelled from all over Brazil.
“It was life-changing,” says Tony. “It was amazing to look out and see that many people. In some ways it was too big to comprehend!” From club gigs in Eastern Europe to major festivals like Coachella in California, Above & Beyond have the ability to entrance audiences. Their music has grandeur and melody, but it’s edged with steel too. There are dark shadows but sweet moments too. And it’s bigger than any genre. Trance is too small a word for what they do.
All three are experienced musicians who know their way around a studio without the need for engineers. Tony McGuinness was marketing director for Warner Brothers Records – but for years previously was the guitarist/songwriter of cult indie band Sad Lovers & Giants. Asked to organize a remix of Chakra’s ‘Home’ in 2000, he joined together with Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamaki - and Above & Beyond was born. “By coincidence we ended up putting three individuals with complimentary and different talents into the mix,” says Tony. Pete Tong quickly latched on to their talents: that debut remix for Chakra quickly reached Number One on the club charts. It’s been a rollercoaster ride ever since.
Jono Grant first discovered dance music when he borrowed his brother James’s cassette of Paul Oakenfold’s classic Goa mix – and fell in love with its sweeping melodrama. He was already training as a classical pianist and played guitar. But that mix inspired him to start building his own studio, taking on part time jobs to buy bits and pieces of equipment. “I managed to save up enough money from mowing the lawn to buy a drum machine,” he laughs. By the time he arrived at London’s University of Westminster, he had a small, yet compact studio, which completely filled his tiny 4 x 2 metre university room. His first production was a remix of Strike’s Top Five hit ‘U Sure Do’.
Paavo had arrived at the same university from his native Finland, where he had already fallen in love with electronic music and composed music for theatre. Also classically trained on cello and piano, he was studying music business. The two met one beery night in university halls and Jono proceeded to play his latest productions. “I love this kind of music,” Paavo told Jono. “Let's write a track together.” Jono loved the idea. They pooled their studio resources in one mad taxi dash, and Anjunabeats was born. It is now one of the most famous labels on the world stage.
In 2001, Above & Beyond remixed Madonna’s ‘What It Feels Like For A Girl’ after Tony talked his way into her manager’s office – and into a remix. “We were pitching for the stars at that point,” smiles Paavo. Tony’s charm paid off when Madonna used their mix for her controversial hot rod rampage video, directed by her husband Guy Ritchie. When she phoned, requesting some minor changes, Tony was in flagrante with his girlfriend. He took the call though. Well, if Madonna calls… Other remixes have included Dido’s ‘Sand In My Shoes’ and Britney Spears’s ‘Everytime’.
Their first single proper, 2002’s ‘Far From In Love’ with Kate Cameron, quickly became a dance anthem. In 2006 Above & Beyond released their first artist album ‘Tri-State’ which was greeted with rave reviews. “Brilliant,” said DJ Magazine. “The ultimate fulfillment of any dance act’s ambition.” The sheer quality of the songwriting on this album shone through as it swept from euphoric melodies to atmospheric down-tempo moments. Above & Beyond had most certainly arrived. “Tri-State was our first attempt at writing an album,” says Paavo. “We felt the perfect album wouldn’t be 12 club tracks but a collection of songs that take you on a journey. It took over a year to do it. There were moments where we weren’t really sure. But in the end we feel we made something we could be proud of.”
One of the album’s many standouts is ‘Alone Tonight’ – a song Tony wrote after a relationship break-up. Its otherworldly melodies and heartfelt vocal performance from Richard Bedford resonate with audiences all over the world. “’Alone Tonight’ really does connect with people,” says Jono. “A lot of people who go to clubs are single, and that song is about being in a relationship but feeling alone. So it resonates with both groups of people.” Under their Oceanlab alias, used working with singer/songwriter Justine Suissa, they also produced the unforgettable ‘Satellite’. Again, there’s a lyric with universal appeal – which Tony wrote about Paavo and his Japanese wife, when both were on opposite sides of the world – coupled with melodies to make you shiver and a vocal drenched in emotion. It too has become a vocal trance classic and live favourite.
Yet Above & Beyond aren’t just consummate musicians and songwriters, they are also world class DJs. Their Trance Around The World radio show airs on over 15 FM, Internet and Satellite stations worldwide. They began their DJing career in grand style in 2002, in front of 8,000 people in Tokyo. Since then they have become globetrotting DJ superstars. In 2004 they won Essential Mix of the Year, proving just how deftly they navigate the full spectrum of melodic dance music, with sets that cross genres with ease and that encompass the trancier side of house, progressive and techno. And each year they rise inexorably higher in the prestigious DJ Magazine poll: from 39, to 19, from nine to their current placing at six. “To be among such great DJs is a real honour,” says Paavo, with a humility typical of the band. “There are people above and below that I really, truly respect.”
What audiences around the world also respond to is the professionalism and enthusiasm that Above & Beyond bring to their art. There is a warmth about the trio that people love. Tony is the one who gives it all on stage. “Tony is really the rock n’ roll star of the whole crew. He’s the guy with the most experience, in life, in many things,” says Paavo, “and he still manages to be the kid of the group.” Tony sums up his band members with equal enthusiasm. “Jono is ambivalent about the incredible talent he has. He has a lot of energy, he is fearless when he’s DJing and is always in a good mood.” If Jono’s contribution is an effortless musicality, says Tony, Paavo adds heart and soul. “What he brings in a sense is how to bring out the emotion in a track.”
The ongoing Above & Beyond world tour continues. And the band have just returned from Ibiza, where, prolific as ever, they have been recording an Oceanlab album with Justine Suissa that is even more widescreen in its vision, says Jono, than ‘Tri-State’. They work instinctively as a team, constantly striving to get better. “You get more out of life by collaborating,” notes Tony. “We’re always trying to grow, we’re always trying to learn and we’re always trying to get better at what we do.” And what they do is make music with melody, movement – and meaning. Music, in short, that matters to people across the globe. “You can do stuff that is popular without selling out,” says Jono. “If you do something of good quality, people respond to that.” Which is why even when they are half a world away, audiences always make Above & Beyond feel at home.
Alesso
Alesso
Life is full of decisions that either make or break us. In the grand scheme of things, selling his motorized scooter for his first studio set up may well have been the best move Alessandro Lindblad - a Stockholm born youngster of Italian ancestry - ever made. Now a regular at some of the world’s largest festivals and collaborating with producers such as Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso continues to bring uplifting moments to the forefront of global dance music.
Debuting with ‘Nillionaire’ and breaking through with the dark and energized ‘Raise Your Head’, successive Beatport chart toppers ‘Calling’ alongside Sebastian Ingrosso, ‘Years’ alongside Matthew Koma and ‘City of Dreams’ alongside Dirty South and his latest solo release ‘Clash’ have kept Alesso in high esteem throughout 2012. Add to this further high-profile production duties alongside David Guetta and remixes for Swedish House Mafia and British stadium rockers Keane, and you start to understand the heights he has already reached.
Between landmark festivals such as Tomorrowland, Electronic Daisy Carnival, Creamfields and his homeland’s Summerburst Festival, Alesso’s studio work has been matched with a strong live presence. Proving as popular on the white isle at Ushuaia and Amnesia as he remains on the American circuit, with Swedish House Mafia for their final UK performance at Milton Keynes Bowl have seen the young producer get instantly with huge crowds across the globe. With the All Mixed Up concept alongside label mates Ingrosso and Otto Knows taking his American presence to a new high, the future continues to bring even more breakthrough opportunities.
Alesso’s universal explosion shows little sign of slowing down. Add whirlwind tour duties in Asia, south and Northern America and it is apparent that his days as Sweden’s best-kept secret are well and truly over.
Alpine
Alpine
Alpine is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from France who came to Los Angeles to study film. His passion for music led him to score various projects. Yet Alpine wanted to introduce his work to a live audience through performance. Combining orchestral elements and electronic instruments into his DJing: this is how his epic EDM show came to life.
Andy C
Andy C
In the world of electronic music, there are few bigger names than that of Andy C.
Regarded as one of the greatest DJs ever to touch a turntable, the Ram Records founder has relentlessly dedicated almost two decades of his life to the music he loves, flying across the globe week in, week out, to demonstrate a mastery of craft that has earnt him a status as one of the most iconic and important figures in global dance music culture.
Much more than just a DJ, Andy C is a true figurehead for the drum & bass movement, within which he has been an instrumental player since its very beginnings; his DJ sets and own seminal productions helping to evolve the genre through the many stages of its evolution. Andy’s dedication to dance music is only matched by his list of achievements, and his is a journey that has taken him from sneaking into raves in barns as a 13 year old, to the glamorous terraces of Space in Ibiza and being invited to speak at Oxford University.
Growing up in Hornchurch, Essex, the young Andrew Clarke got his first taste of the rave culture that was sweeping the UK in the late-1980s from his older sister, Sarah. At just 12 years of age, Andy would obsessively educate himself by listening to her rave tapes and local pirate radio, eagerly absorbing the sounds of the nascent rave scene and desperate to become involved in its rapidly emerging culture.
At 15, Andy first met Scott Bourne (Red One) through a school work-experience placement. The slightly older Scott ran a rave called Imagination in Bishopsgate, London, and it was here that Andy’s attention was first captured by the DJ controlling the crowd. After buying a cheap pair of decks, plenty of sleepless school nights spent practicing, and endlessly mailing out demo cassettes; luck struck and Andy was asked to play at Elevation on London’s Shaftsbury Avenue. Residencies at legendary raves such as Telepathy followed and, as Jungle emerged from Hardcore, Andy C became a name to watch.
With his career as a DJ taking flight, although still yet to finish school, Andy was also busy cutting his teeth as a producer, grappling with the rudimentary music-tech of the early-90s under the guidance of family friend Ant Miles, and creating his own tracks on reel-to-reel tape players and monophonic samplers. Having spent months working on the four-track ‘Sour Mash’ EP, the young DJ was determined the tracks should find a release. As such, just one week after finishing his GCSEs, Ram Records was launched, taking its name from Andy’s star sign (Aries) and with a logo hand-drawn by his sister on the kitchen table at home. Little did anyone involved realise then, but what would go on to become one of the biggest and most powerful brands in dance music had just been born.
Ram’s third release, the classic ‘Valley Of The Shadows’ (with Ant Miles under the Origin Unknown moniker) in 1993, assured Andy a place in the history of dance music at the age of just 16, but the teenager from Essex wasn’t about to rest on his laurels. As the 1990s went on, and Drum & Bass emerged from Jungle, Andy’s impeccable DJ sets consolidated his status as an essential at any big rave, while Ram continued to develop into one of the most forward thinking and consistent labels in dance music.
Two albums followed for Origin Unknown, ‘Speed Of Sound’ and ‘Sound In Motion’ in 1997 and 1998 respectively, before Andy and Ant linked up within another long-standing local friend, Shimon, to form the mighty Ram Trilogy. In 1999 the trio released ‘Molten Beats’, a landmark drum & bass album that signified just how far the genre come in the few short years since the emergence of Jungle in the early-90s.
Over the following decade both Andy and Ram refused to let up. DJing more than ever, in almost every corner of the planet, Andy was – and continues to be – repeatedly voted Number One at every D&B awards ceremony going, confirming his reputation for near super-human skills behind the turntables with every set, and demonstrating a technical and musical erudition that led to his fond labelling as a ‘robot’ by the fans that religiously attended the packed-out Ram events at The End nightclub in London’s West End.
In 2003 Andy released the first in his ‘Nightlife’ mix series, winning universal acclaim for its selection and construction and spawning four further instalments over the years that would follow. While Andy kept himself busy with a tireless DJ schedule during the first decade of the new Millennium, Ram was busy too – signing up the brightest sparks from D&B’s new wave of producers. Among these were two names that have since become some of the biggest producers working in electronic music today; Sub Focus and Chase & Status, who have both gone on the record to expressing their gratitude for Andy’s role in their unprecedented success as producers.
Despite this incredible career, the future is set for only bigger and better things for a man who has dedicated the vast majority of his life to the music he loves and believes in. After a year that saw him unleash the latest ‘Nightlife’, moving the Ram nights to London’s Fabric superclub, signing a whole raft of fresh talent to the label and even lecturing at Oxford University, as the new decade develops the man they call ‘The Executioner’ isn’t softening up… in fact, he’s sharpening his axe.
Arty
Arty
On July 4th, 2011, Arty released his massive, big-room house anthem "Around the World" on Anjunabeats following unprecedented support across the board from Axwell, Chuckie, Hardwell, Tiesto, Robbie Rivera, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery and an extended list of the biggest names in electronic music of the moment on the biggest events of the year such as the Swedish House Mafia's performance on the main stage of the record-breaking Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas in June 2011. Artem Stolyarov has himself already been around the world and back having played events across the globe from the most prestigious clubs to some of the biggest festivals including Global Gathering, Gatecrasher and ASOT 500 in Den Bosch.
In autumn 2010 Arty made his debut in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll as #78 in the world while being listed by many peers in the same centurion as the breakthrough artist of the year, which was subsequently followed by nomination for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2011 IDMA awards. As Arty said in an interview in summer 2010, "I think that your goals must be difficult to achieve; reaching such goals is the most exciting thing that encourages me to develop as an artist", and with so much achieved so far in his fledgling career with over 30 releases on labels from Armada to Black Hole, topping Beatport charts and being supported on countless radio shows by other top artists this hard-working attitude indicates only more to come.
In 2011 alone some of his productions such as the collaboration "Rebound" with Mat Zo have been among the most played tracks around and to add to his already-impressive remixology resumé he has been handpicked for duties on some high-profile release packages to be announced soon. Confirmed for Audiotistic Festival in LA and Electric Zoo Festival in New York as debuts in each city, the 21-year old Russian native continues relentlessly moving forward setting the bar for what constitutes a rookie year in every possible area of his career.
Astronomar
Astronomar
Without exaggeration, Astronomar is one of the most exciting new producers out there. There’s an intangible uniqueness to everything he does, and a strong hip-hop influence which give his tracks a hardcore, but incredibly fun vibe. Since his first release "Had To Move On" on Neoteric's Turned On Vol.2 last summer, he’s released on Mad Decent imprint Jeffrees, and Top Billin’ (of which Style of Eye proclaimed his release the best ever from the label). The biggest names, from Diplo, to Crookers, to A-trak have supported his tracks nightly, while we wait for the rest of the world to catch on. This is that next shit.
ATB
ATB
Only a few international artists presenting their own style succeed in having such a lasting effect on the international dance scene for more than ten years. Andre Tanneberger presents his individual spirit in all of his tracks and still stayed true to ATB.
Well known for his single “9PM (Till I Come)” and also his seven studio albums, the six „in the mix“ compilations, his “Sunset Beach DJ Session” compilation and a total of four DVDs, he is one of the most famous international electronic music artists. Holding position #11 in the DJ MAG voting for the last two years and also residing on position #4 of theDJlist.com for more than three years now, he still manages to be one of the DJs who is always as close to his fans as possible, presenting his music to them live and directly. His energetic, emotional and unique DJ sets serve as the universal language he uses for more than 14 years now to tour all around the globe to get into direct contact with his fans at all times.
This all lead to Andre becoming one of the most important producers and musicians for electronic music of the last decade. Having worked with international stars like Heather Nova, Moby or William Orbit on previous albums he collaborated with famous artists like Roberta Carter Harrison, Haley, Betsy Larkin, Aruna and Josh Gallahan on his latest album “Future Memories”. Together with Bryan Adams he stood on stage at Rock in Rio and remixed pop legends like A-ha.
Axwell
Axwell
The king of the sun-kissed summer anthem; the mogul behind one of the hottest imprints on the planet; a superstar producer and DJ who’s never lost the giddy enthusiasm of a fledgling clubber; and one of the most successful and influential remixers of the 21st century. By anyone’s standards, Axel ‘Axwell’ Hedfors is a giant of modern-day dance music – and he’s only going to get bigger.
Axwell’s steady ascent into clubland aristocracy began when he struck crossover gold with 2004’s glorious ‘Feel The Vibe’. An unstoppably uplifting and instantly memorable track, the original version of ‘Feel The Vibe’ (featuring vocalist Errol Reid) dazzled every corner of clubland, before an overhauled version (with new vocals by Tara McDonald) gate-crashed the UK top 20. 2005’s ‘Watch The Sunrise’ (featuring Steve Edwards) proved to be another unstoppable anthem, as was his 2006 collaboration with fellow Swedish House Mafioso Steve Angello, Supermode’s ‘Tell Me Why’ (released via Ministry Of Sound, it reach #13 in the UK and #3 in the Netherlands). But it was 2007’s rave-referencing ‘I Found U’ (#6 in the UK charts) that really cemented Axwell’s status as a producer who could marry artistic innovation with strong commercial appeal – a rare thing indeed, in any genre of music. Most recently he was one of the forces behind Swedish House Mafia – One (Your Name) featuring Pharell Williams, another top ten UK hit, crashing into the summer charts at #7 and soundtracking every festival, dance event and Ibiza club night.
“I do feel pressure to maintain a certain level of success,” says Axwell. “That’s a weight that lies on my shoulders – but all that pressure comes from myself. I want every tune to be better than the last one: to sound stronger, to be phatter, to work better in a club. So it’s pressure, but it’s good pressure. It pushes me forwards, creatively.”
“For me, it’s all about asking questions of myself. Would I play this? Would I play it during peak time? Is it the phattest thing I’ve ever heard? Is it the most futuristic shit out there? I question the track – and myself – the whole time. I’ve got a good expression: the goose-bumps never lie. If you get goose-bumps during the production stage, then you’re on the right track…”
Axwell’s Midas-like touch – along with his peerless technical ability – has made him the go-to guy for artists looking to get their latest release reworked into a storming dancefloor juggernaut. Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Moby and Pharrell Williams have all come a-knockin’, while productions such as his masterful reworking of Hard-Fi’s ‘Hard To Beat’, his sublime remix of The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ (along with Dirty South) and of course his unstoppable version of TV Rock’s ‘In The Air’ have gone on to become as big as – or, in many cases, bigger than – the original tracks.
Part of what makes Axwell such a sought-after producer is his dazzling stylistic agility; he can switch between house, techno and electro (and everything in-between) without even breaking a sweat.
“Axwell has an innate feel for the dancefloor,” says long-time fan Judge Jules, “but his versatility is even more impressive. Too many producers get caught in a trademark groove, becoming a prisoner of their own perceived style. Axwell’s material is so varied, but it never fails to rock – big time.”
You only have to take a look over the back catalogue of Axtone, Axwell’s much-admired label, to see his enthusiasm for a dizzying range of styles and sounds. From the banging to the beatific, Axwell and his roster of artists – which includes Dirty South, TV Rock & Prok & Fitch amongst others – really have managed to please all the people, all the time.
Things have been comparatively quiet in terms of Axwell’s own release schedule for the last 12 months or so – his biggest tune of recent times has been ‘Leave The World Behind’, the spectacular collaboration with Laidback Luke and his Swedish House Mafia cohorts Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. However, there’s a very good reason for this usually prolific producer keeping a relatively low profile, track-wise.
“I have been holding back with the productions for a bit,” says Axwell, “and that’s because I’m currently trying to finish off my debut album. It’s going really well. I’m used to just working track-by-track, but making a whole album, and making the whole thing sound fresh – all the tracks, all at the same time – that’s been a challenge, but a really fun one. And that’s why I didn’t release that many tracks in 2009 – although, what I did release kept me going for the whole year!
“My album will contain a bit of everything that I’m about – which is a bit of everything! It’s going to contain a lot of songs that I’ve worked on throughout the years and maybe not finished, but I’ve thought, ‘That’s a great song – I really need to finish that some day.’ And that day has come – now it’s time to finish them.”
Album or no album, Axwell has still found time to personally send the planet’s biggest clubs into utter gleeful meltdown. DJing remains a real passion of his, a way to stay connected with clubbers and their ever-changing tastes.
“I try to keep a balance,” he says. “I make sure that I get enough time in the studio, so that when I DJ I have new tracks to play. That keeps me excited. I want to play those tracks and test them out, to see if they work in a club. That helps me to keep my edge.”
Whatever direction the music takes Axwell in next, you can be sure that he’ll be closely followed by admirers and imitators alike. “During the past 15 years,” says sometime Axwell-collaborator Bob Sinclair, “there are only a few guys who have really influenced the dance-music scene with their sound and the way that they produce. Axwell is one of them.”
Bassjackers
Bassjackers
On an afternoon somewhere in the beginning of 2007 two friends decided to join forces, one DJ and one producer, both sharing great passion for House music. Bassjackers was born!
Bassjackers a.k.a. Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst had not foreseen what was coming when they started out with their collaboration. Marlon was already DJ-ing for a while and Ralph experimented a lot with making different kinds of dance music. Marlon was mainly playing House music at the time and then the idea came to push Ralph’s productions in that direction so that Marlon could play the tracks in his sets. The first track they were both satisfied with was ‘Beat Cut’.
‘Beat Cut’ got picked up by Fedde Le Grand and kickstarted their career. What followed was a solid stream of tracks and remixes which were supported by all the top jocks and scored big on the international dance charts, like for example their remix for Dada Life which scored #1 on hypem.com (the international hype machine). The success in the studio was also taken to the clubs and with a packed schedule of 250 gigs a year Bassjackers were definitely established in the dance scene.
Their big break came in 2011, their dancefloor bomb ‘Mush Mush’ got picked up by Tiësto and got released on Tiësto’s imprint ‘Musical Freedom’. It dominated the Beatport Top 10 for over 2 months and grew to be one of the biggest club/festival tracks of 2011. It’s that track that every DJ can play to destroy the dance floor, and so they did. Just to namedrop; Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Afrojack, Sander van Doorn, Martin Solveig, Calvin Harris, Benny Benassi, Judge Jules, the list of support is endless!
This resulted in a massive career boost! Remixing for A-list artists like Rihanna and Moby, playing in Privilege Ibiza alongside Tiësto and touring around the globe to demolish dance floors is just the beginning. Bassjackers are taking over!
Benny Benassi
Benny Benassi
Hailing from Reggio Emilia, Italy, Benny Benassi rose to worldwide fame with the 2002 release of his enormous chart-topping hit single “Satisfaction.” It was with that tune that he initiated a new genre of music dubbed as Electro, which earned him the crown “Godfather of Electro.” The demand for Benassi as a DJ is incredible and he headlines major festivals and venues around the world, including performances at this year’s Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival festivals and major North American clubs including Pacha in New York and Government in Toronto. Benassi’s previous album releases include 2003′s Hypnotica (featuring “No Matter What You Do” and “Love is Gonna Save Us”) as Benny Benassi presents The Biz, 2004′s Pumphonia (whose singles “Illusion” and “Hit My Heart” became massive European hits) and 2005’s …Phobia as the Benassi Brothers, and 2008′s Rock N Rave (featuring Iggy Pop, Black Box, and Mia J). Benny Benassi’s new album Spaceship will be released in 2011 on Ultra Records.

Boom Jinx
Boom Jinx
Hailing from Norway, Boom Jinx began writing music in 1989. After building a successful career in the commercial film/TV industry, he turned his attention to dance music in 2005, spending his off-hours exploring his new passion. Deftly managing his time, continued career success came with writing music for the 5th biggest videogame franchise "Need for Speed" and one of the most popular TV shows in the world, "CSI: Miami." His work on dance music has been equally lauded, developing a well deserved reputation amongst his peers for productions that showcase a stunning level of intricate detail and subtle nuances.
His music has gotten support from industry heavyweights such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiësto, Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten as well as rave reviews from DJ Magazine and URB. Considering that his tracks have achieved top placement in European dance charts and gotten consistent play on worldwide radio shows (including numerous plays on BBC's Radio 1), it is clear that his music resonates with the masses as well. This rapport has led him to become a DJ with performances in Europe, America, Asia and Africa, sharing event billing with the likes of Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery, Markus Schulz and Sander Van Doorn. With an epic 14-city USA tour opening for Above & Beyond under his belt and his highly acclaimed album nearing completed, Boom Jinx has exploded on the global DJ scene.
Cedric Gervais
Cedric Gervais
It is an uncommon occurrence in the Electronic Dance Music scene to find an artist sensationally talented as both a DJ and a producer. Cedric Gervais is of the rare breed whose talents behind the decks translate over into the production room. For years he has captivated clubbers and partygoers as he reigned supreme over the Miami dance scene. Although originally born in Marseilles, Cedric Gervais has chosen Miami as his adopted home, and the city has been more than happy to embrace him.
He has held residencies at Crobar (now Cameo) and the world famous Nikki Beach, before taking over the Space Terrace. Cedric's presence at the Space Terrace was felt immediately as people in the thousands began lining up to witness him devastate the after-hours scene. Despite being in such heavy demand, Cedric still found time to take his talents into the studio. His first single with Ultra Records, "Burning" was a great success on both the charts and the underground circuit. Soon after, he unleashed his debut album "The Experiment", which featured the massive hit, "Spirit in My Life".
The album took him to a different level as he spent the next couple of years touring the world, entertaining and thrilling his many fans. His production credits include working with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, and Rachel Star, just to name a few. Whilst maintaining a hectic tour schedule, Cedric has managed to both continue his residency at Space and spend plenty of time in the production room.?His latest single, "Mauri's Dream", was Pete Tong's Essential Tune of the Week three weeks in a row, and has received great critical acclaim from both DJs and producers. Many consider it to be one of the best, if not the best song revealed at the 2009 Winter Music Conference. It will be hard for any producer to top "Mauri's Dream", but tantalizingly enough, Cedric has expressed that "Mauri's Dream" is just the beginning of what should be a string of smash hit releases.
Currently, Cedric is working on his highly anticipated second album, "Miamication"; which is scheduled for release later this summer. He is working closely with Sharam (of Deep Dish fame) and the duo already had a monster record together, entitled, "U Don't Even Know Us", under the moniker, Sharvais. Cedric has also just relaunched his two record labels, Sleaze Records and SleazeTech. Having undergone major makeovers, the two labels are ready to take the Electronic Dance Music world by storm. Sleaze Records will specialize in house music and SleazeTech will focus on Techno and Minimal. Both labels are set to begin a heavy release schedule with the first set of releases coming in the end of April. With a host of new talent signed to the two labels, it is only a matter of time before Cedric propels them both to the top.
Very few have managed to enjoy the kind of success Cedric Gervais has worked hard to achieve in such a short span of time. The scary, yet enthralling aspect about Cedric's career is that it has yet to reach it peak. Although it would be cliché to say the future is bright for this young star, it is nevertheless true. No one can be sure what is in store for Cedric, but what can be certain is his impact will be one that will be felt for generations to come.
Chris Lake
Chris Lake
The name Chris Lake has been the talk of electronic music for the past six years. Six years in which he has accomplished more than most could in a lifetime. Six years in which you’d expect other artists’ popularity to fade. Not Chris.
The latter half of 2011 saw the man himself sign an album deal with American powerhouse Ultra Records and unleash the single “Sundown”, which went top ten on Beatport and clocked up another ‘world famous Essential New Tune’ accolade on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show.
Off the back of “Sundown’s” global success, 2012 saw Chris continue at the same uncompromising pace with the single “Build Up” hitting stores in February. Further singles are to follow whilst Chris puts the finishing touches to his hotly- anticipated album, which features collaborations with the likes of John Dahlback, Benji Madden from Good Charlotte, Tommy Trash and Lazy Rich to name a few.
Now residing in LA, Chris Lake’s decision to take on North America’s booming Electronic Dance Music scene is testament to his ever-growing popularity in the US, choosing to tour all year. With demand growing day by day for dance music Stateside, Chris’s profile is set to sore to even greater heights. Heights that have already seen the Scot scoop Billboard Chart number ones, grace MTV and entertain thousands from Vegas to Ibiza… and that’s only scratching the surface.
The earlier successes of “Changes”, “La Tromba”, “Only One” and “If You Knew” only reaffirm Chris’s ever-present reputation as one of dance music’s most innovative producers, as he continues to sustain his exceptionally high standard of work and join the dots between then and now.
The last few years may have seen his work with close cohort deadmau5 - remixed by Michael Woods - named “First Essential New Tune of the Decade”, a return for a third year to his residency at Cream Ibiza and a full scale European tour, but for Chris Lake, the best it yet come. Quite a statement for a man who has hit the top spot of Hype Machine, smashed one of the UK’s best festivals in 2011, Creamfields and become a fixture on BBC Radio 1.
He may have travelled the globe as a DJ, indulgeing his audience in the deeper throngs of electronic music, blending unique edits with exclusive tracks reserved strictly for his own use. He’s topped industry charts over and over and been classed as one of the best producers on the planet, but Chris Lake’s story is far from over. Put simply, a Chris Lake show is an experience and one to be savored.
If you listen to his music, you’ll understand why. If you see him live, you’ll understand even more.
Clinton VanSciver
Clinton VanSciver
Looking back to just one short year ago, saying Clinton VanSciver has come a long way is an understatement. Formerly producing under the name Mister Perfect, Clinton VanSciver rocked the scene with "Love Letters," his track with Swedish Egil which gained airplay on Power 106 in Los Angeles, and now he’s poised to take the EDM world by storm with originals and remixes on the way. He describes his music as "vyvanse and whiskey" with a sarcastic attitude," but we'll let you be the judge of that.
Cosmic Gate
Cosmic Gate
4 artist albums, 28 singles and 46 remixes, 4 Back 2 Back mix-compilations, a 1000+ international gigs played and clubbers, numbered in their millions, thrilled ... all from one chance meeting in a record label office. Nic and Bossi's Cosmic Gate's partnership has proved to be one of electronic dance music's most successful, and one of its most enduring. Creating a perfect in-studio/behind-the-decks storm, 10 years into their career they became the highest-climbers on DJ Mag's 2009 Top 100 chart and landed back amongst the 25 biggest DJs in the world the following year. Powered by their hugely received albums, club-rocking singles (inc. 'Not Enough Time', 'Body of Conflict', 'Analog Feel' and 'F.A.V.') and scene-defining classics 'Fire Wire' and 'Exploration of Space' their space in EDM's hall of fame has been secured.
In their homeland of Germany, they've retained a consistent level of chart success, with no fewer than 7 Top 40 singles to their name and scored a UK top 10 hit with 'Fire Wire'. Following the early long-players 'Rythm & Drums' and 'No More Sleep', in 2006 they released 'Earth Mover', which saw them palpably shift towards edgier, more capacious electronic dance music. It gave rise to the club hits 'Analog Feel', 'Should Have Known' and 'I Feel Wonderful' and garnered an IDMA nomination for Best Album of 2007. Latterly the album has been viewed by both press and fans as a new 'year-one' for the act. Three years later they released 'Sign of the Times', which contained 11 new tracks including the vocal anthems 'Body of Conflict' & 'Not Enough Time' (featuring Denise Rivera and Emma Hewitt respectively) and the singles 'F.A.V.', 'Flatline', 'Under Your Spell', 'London Rain' and title track. The response to the album was dramatic, with the pair receiving a Best Selling Trance Act nomination in the 2010 Beatport Awards, an IDMA nom for 'Not Enough Time' and prompted a near unprecedented 43 position move up DJ Mag's Top 100 chart. In light of its extraordinary level of success, in September 2010 a double-disc Deluxe Edition of the album was released which included all the singles remixes and exclusive, specially prepared revamps of other S.O.T.T. tracks.
At the start of 2011, with the release of 'Back 2 The Future', the Cosmics blurred the line between the compilation and artist album. Collaborating with some of their own favourite producers, they remix-revisited still-much-in-demand tracks from their first two albums. With producers like Markus Schulz, Arty, Robbie Rivera, Wippenberg, Jochen Miller, Arnej and Rank 1 remixing tracks including 'The Drums', Fire Wire', 'Exploration of Space' and 'Back 2 Earth', it produced a single release run that saw Cosmic Gate take up residence on Beatport's top 10 chart for an unbroken, unprecedented 3 months. The final months of 2011 will see the highly anticipated release of Cosmic Gate's fifth studio album, 'Wake Your Mind'.
As DJs Nic and Bossi continue to whip floors into frenzies in all four corners. In North America of late they've smashed the Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, Nocturnal festivals and road-blocked clubs and events that include Bal En Blanc & Guvernment (Canada), ASOT500 at the Ultra Music Festival, Miami, Pacha, NYC and their Marquee, Las Vegas residency. Throughout the 2011 season they've achieved yet broader span Isla Blanca appeal with forum-praised performances at Space, Eden, Privilege and Sankeys on Ibiza. Likewise floors have been shaken in other European hotspots (ASOT500, Holland, Tomorrowland, Belgium, Global Gathering, UK among them) and further afield at Future Music Festival, Australia and Zouk, Singapore. Most notably perhaps they sold out their 2000 capacity event on Honolulu, Hawaii - making Cosmic Gate one of the just a handful of EDM acts ever to have done so. They've appeared in DJ Magazine's list of Top 100 spinners for 7 consecutive years now and in February 2011, off the back of their increasingly high-profile gig diary, they were asked by BBC Radio 1 to perform their first Essential Mix for the station.
Back2Back, Cosmic Gate's on-going compilation series was devised as an at-home audio-expo of the pair's club-wowing sound. 2010 saw the release of the 4th volume (through Holland's highly-respected Black Hole Recordings label). Bringing Nic & Bossi tight, tense, future-proofed trance/prog/electro hybrid to the forefront, it once again included many of their own track edits.
Over their production lifetime, the Cosmic Gate remix has become almost as illustrious as their productions. In essence a blow-by-blow of trance music's A-list, Nic and Bossi have lent their studio know-how to productions from Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond's OceanLab project, Markus Schulz, Deadmau5, Robbie Rivera & Rank 1. They rewired John O'Callaghan's mega-seller 'Find Yourself' to devastating effect and produced remixes of veteran trance producer Vincent De Moor's 'Fly Away' and 'Carte Blanche' (Veracocha). In early 2010 Atlantic Records US approached them to remix James Horner's 'I See You' - the main theme from the film Avatar. This run culminated in them being nominated for Best Remixer at the 2010 IDMAs. Most recently they have reworked Ferry Corsten's classic 'Punk'.
Crizzly
Crizzly
Anytime he hits the stage, Crizzly has no choice but to go hard. Channeling hyperactive energy and uncontainable swagger, the San Antonio DJ and producer ignites crowds with an intoxicating, infectious, and inimitable blend of dubstep and hip-hop, which he affectionately terms, "Crunkstep". However, there's a lot more to the 21-year-old artist.
Music became a part of Chris Lee "Crizzly" Marshall's life at a very young age. As he recalls, he discovered it as a child—insisting on making his kindergarten class listen to the Space Jam soundtrack during naptime—but he didn't formally embrace it until high school. Picking up a set of turntables, he scored his first gigs at birthday parties. At 19-years-old, production began to inspire him, and he started remixing rap songs from YouTube with a distinctive flare. He released his own takes on Waka Flocka Flame's "Hard in Da Paint" and "Snap Back Swag" from AJ Hernz, and suddenly he set the blogosphere ablaze. Numerous web sites began reposting these cuts, and Crizzly developed a fervent following.
However, some guerilla tactics helped garner even more high profile attention for the fledgling DJ. After playing 2011's Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, he took 20 USB drives with his music and distributed them to some of the festivals top names. "I made it a mission to pass them out to my favorite producers," he remembers with a smile. "I was nervous, but I gave it to Diplo. He listened, and now he plays 'Hard in Da Paint' in his set."
Meanwhile, he slipped "Snap Back Swag" into a playlist on Skrillex's tour bus, catching the megastar's ear in the process. As a result, Skrillex added the remix into his set as well. Soon after, even more support came in addition to Skrillex and Diplo with Excision, Datsik, and many others introducing his remixes into their shows.
He describes his sound and style best though. "It's definitely a mixture of two different worlds, dance music and hip-hop," he goes on. "People can connect because there's a lot going on, and there's more than one dimension. The audience responds immediately too. Since there's a halftime feel, the blend just makes sense. It feels right to me."
Most importantly, it feels right to audiences. In February 2012, he embarked on a highly successful tour with 12th Planet and Flinch, and he followed that up with shows alongside Zed's Dead. In the midst, he was featured in the July 2012 issue of Spin. Currently, he's confirmed on the bill for the 2012 installments of Nocturnal [California and Texas], Electric Daisy Carnival [Las Vegas, New York, Puerto Rico, Orlando, and Colorado], Atlantic Impulse, Electric Forrest, White Wonderland, Escape From Wonderland Lights All Night in Dallas, Global Dance in Kansas City and Denver, and more. Plus, he'll embark on his first headline tour of college markets in Fall 2012.
In fact the best way to experience Crizzly is to actually be in the audience. "I play a lot of hard stuff," he concludes. "I expend a ton of energy. I want the fans to get buck wild, crazy, and crunk. I want them to make some bad decisions and have fun." One thing's for sure: there ain't no party like a Crizzly party. — Rick Florino, May 2012
Damian Lazarus
Damian Lazarus
Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus's mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places.
"...and to have fun in the process. Playing around with different styles and ideas is what I do best," Lazarus explains.
Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humour, he's used his role as a DJ, label owner and now musician to nurture and share the most exciting and experimental music on the planet. Drawn to the darkness, but buoyed by the light, ever ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives on music and the dancefloor, Lazarus is always ahead of the curve, with a wry smile on his face and a neat trick up his sleeve, How many DJs do you know who've played 'Reviewing The Situation (from the Oliver! soundtrack, no less) half-speed to a jubilant crowd at DC10 in Ibiza. How many DJs do you know who've received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor?
Lazarus was born in London, where he lived until he relocated to Los Angeles in 2009. During childhood, Damian was naturally drawn to classic pop music, and inherited from his grandfather an affection for showtunes which continues to exert itself in the strangest of ways. He spent his teens immersing himself in the sounds of hip-hop, electro, soul and funk, before discovering house, hardcore and jungle at university - sparking a love of twisted, innovative dance music which endures to this day. After working as Music Editor then Assistant Editor at Dazed & Confused, Lazarus joined London Records and in 2001 became head A&R of the City Rockers label. Here he helped sign and release some of the biggest tunes of the era, including Felix Da Housecat's 'Silver Screen Shower Scene' and Tiga & Zyntherius's 'Sunglasses at Night'; his Futurism and Futurism 2 compilations remain the definitive documents of electroclash, not only providing a snapshot of the underground at that crucial moment in time, but mapping its future too.
Damian received a major Djing break in 2002 when he was invited to spin at Barcelona's Sonar Festival and by 2003 he had residencies at some of the best club spaces in the world. His tenure at Circo Loco (DC10 Ibiza) has become the stuff of legend and found him consistently breaking boundaries of sound and stamina, freaking out the dancefloor and taking those on it to places they never knew existed, and may never get to again.
"I thought a lot about these dj sets when pre-producing the album; especially the idea of placing off and strange melodies within a 4/4 dance music structure. It's amazing what you can achieve when you're into weird stuff", he says.
Inspired by the new energy and possibilities in international club culture and music, Lazarus founded Crosstown Rebels in 2003, the label's records offering all kinds of unique and twisted angles on cutting edge electronic music. Recent releases on Rebels from Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Deniz Kurtel and Art Department have found the label consistently breaking new ground and the new imprints CDR (a digital only label) and Rebellion are set to change the rules once again.
In 2008 Damian began Lazpod (http://www.lazpod.com), a monthly excursion into weird and wonderful sound, a radio show that draws influences and inspirations from all corners of the musical spectrum and is delivered in a fun and laid back style. With many thousands of fans across the globe, Damian uses the show to let listeners in a little closer to his experimental and eclectic tastes.
"Lazpod is a great entry point for new listeners to my music", he says, "and has been setting off warning signals of what might be coming on my album for some time".
A number of popular and critically acclaimed mix CDs have appeared in the last five years, charting Damian's personal development as DJ, listener and supporter of new artists: Rebel Futurism (2004), Rebel Futurism (2005), Bugged out presents Suck My Deck (2005), Get Lost (with Matthew Styles, 2006), The Other Side (2006), Sci:Fi:Lo:Fi 2: Night of The Dark Machines (2008) and Fabric 54 (2010).
Damian's critically acclaimed debut artist album, Smoke The Monster Out, is another expectation-confounding gesture from this restless musical mind. Released via Get Physical, the album boldly steps outside the realm of what one might hear in a Lazarus DJ set. Featuring his own vocals and riding a vast plain of influences - Neil Diamond to Photek, Bjork to Jeff Buckley - Lazarus demonstrates his keen ear and meticulous attention to detail in a collection of heartfelt, grievously honed tracks delivered straight from the soul. It's a sensitive record, a bold record and above all a celebratory record - one which revels in the pure pleasure, healing quality and dream-potential of music.
"It took me a while to start producing", he says "but once the juices started to flow I knew immediately that this was to be the best musical project I ever created".
A groundbreaking live set to accompany the album was been built from scratch, enhancing different elements and including new club versions of the more introspective album material. Featuring decks, effects (no laptops) and a live visual show, the album club tour debuted at the legendary SXSW festival in March 2009 and went on to blow minds in just a handful of globe's best clubs.
Damian Lazarus is a believer in giving people something exciting, unusual and idiosyncratic. He lives life to the limit, always rebelling, always moving forward: that's Damian Lazarus.

Danny Avila
Danny Avila
At the grand old age of 17, Danny Avila has become one of the hottest acts in the world of EDM. From winning the ‘Best Newcomer DJ’ at the prestigious 2011 Vicious Music Awards at just 16, through an incredible 2012 Ibiza season that caught the attention of everyone including Tiësto and dance bible DJ Mag where he became the youngest ever Covermount CD artist, to the announcement of his residency as the youngest ever prime-time DJ on US broadcasting behemoth SiriusXM, confirmed sets at Coachella 2013 and the Main Stage of Ultra Music Festival 2013, and inclusion in Billboard, MTV and Dancing Astronaut’s 2013 Ones To Watch lists, Avila is the name on everyone’s lips – and rightly so.
It’s a story that starts over five years ago. After haggling his way into some of Spain’s top club venues at the age of 12 to witness the passion and power of artists like Fedde le Grand, Afrojack, David Guetta and more from the confines of lighting booths and sound desks, the young Avila knew exactly where he wanted to be. Showing incredible determination and a vast sponge-like acquirement for music, Avila went from playing at friends’ parties to warm-up spots at Ku in Benidorm – where he was first noticed by le Grand. Proving an ability beyond his years to lay down sets oozing with tribal heat and rich in track selection that burst beyond the confines of the Beatport Top 10 charts, Avila’s reputation grew, and grew quickly. To anyone who’s witnessed him behind the DJ booth, it has come as no surprise. To see Danny in action is to be hit with the full force of an exuberant, excitable and unbridled energy for the music that he plays and the reaction from the crowd that marks him out as a truly passionate performer who both loves and understands the dance floor and what it stands for.
Fast forward to 2012, and it proved to be a phenomenal year for the young Spaniard. After earning his stripes in illustrious company thanks to early headline slots with Fedde le Grand, Martin Solveig, Afrojack, David Guetta and the Black Eyed Peas, Danny confirmed not one, not two but three residencies in Ibiza – at the jet-set hotspot Blue Marlin, at one of the world’s most celebrated venues, Space Ibiza, and at the personal behest of Tiësto, the legendary Pacha Ibiza where he appeared alongside the iconic Dutchman for an unbelievable 15 dates. A staggering 35 dates in total across the season, Danny Avila had well and truly landed on the White Isle.
While Avila was busy wowing the crowds in Ibiza, on the other side of the Atlantic, the powers that be were also paying attention. Stateside broadcasting behemoth SiriusXM, the largest purveyor of dance music on the North American continent, snapped up the teenager’s ‘Ready To Jump’ show without a moment’s hesitation, making him the youngest EVER prime-time resident to grace the airwaves – and this before Avila had even dropped a single beat on American soil. The show, a sizzling hour-long concoction of pure energy and fun is the perfect representation of the young Spaniard and has had rave reviews across the board from enamoured legions of new US fans. Finally, in September, Danny gave America and Canada what they had been waiting for with a massive inaugural tour that included a sensational three dates in NYC alone. Exploding inside DJ booths across the continent, tens of thousands witnessed both the power and creativity that had already set the European circuit ablaze. With the release of his debut single ‘Breaking Your Fall’ on Big Beat Records in October, the Avila wave began to build unprecedented speed, with music bible Billboard naming him as ‘One To Watch’ for their 2013 ’21 Under 21’ power list, swiftly followed by similar plaudits in the MTV Clubland list and the influential Dancing Astronaut list, underlining the huge impact Danny made in such a short space of time.
In 2013, the wave is beginning to approach tsunami levels. After further dates across North America and Europe and huge first-time appearances in key Asian cities, Danny’s management announced the launch of the Generation Wild tour, teaming him up with fellow musical firebrands Deniz Koyu, dBerrie and Mikael Weermets. The first of 20 nights opens in Chicago on January 31st and is already garnering huge press interest. Add to the concoction a brand new package of edits for ‘Breaking Your Fall’ and the imminent news of a massive remix collaboration with one of the biggest stars in recent musical history, and it’s becoming clear that if you want to keep up with Danny Avila, you need to be damn fast!
Oh – and if all that wasn’t enough, he’s not only spear heading the next generation of superstar DJ/producers – he’s also pretty damn prolific when it comes to anything concerning a board. Verging on pro skate- and snowboarder status, Avila’s also notched up 2nd in the Spanish Wakeboard Championships, 7th in the European Wakeboard Championships and 12th in the World Wakeboard Championships – as ever proving that he’s ready to jump no matter what the medium!
There is, it seems, absolutely no stopping Danny Avila at whatever he turns his hand to. The future beckons, and it’s practically blinding.
Danny Tenaglia
Danny Tenaglia
Danny Tenaglia (born March 7, 1961) is a New York-based DJ and Grammy nominated record producer. Explosive success for him came not behind a major label release, or a world tour, or a radio hit remix: It happened when enough people had the private Tenaglia experience for themselves.
The momentum started building in early '70s New York, when a barely 10-year-old Danny first got the feel of vinyl in his hands. Enthralled by the music of artists like Philly Soul's The Trammps, Motown's Marvin Gaye, African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, and disco producer Giorgio Moroder, he started to collect records, plumbing the depths of each one, and frequently finding that he preferred the B-side to the A. It was 1979 when he discovered legendary nightclub Paradise Garage, where DJ Larry Levan's rich, genre-less blend of music seemed to mirror his own "no boundaries" policy. It was here where Danny found the club model he would one day emulate: Levan's bold style, the venue's plain décor, and the party's warmth and inclusiveness.
Danny left New York in 1985 and launched a successful DJ-ing career in Miami as a resident at Cheers nightclub. There he schooled the locals in classic New York and Chicago house, but five years later he returned home, tired of only playing other people's music. He started to assemble an impressive roster of remixes, including Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" (1991), Jamiroquai's "Emergency on Planet Earth" (1993), and Madonna's "Human Nature" (1994). But his first epic was The Daou's "Surrender Yourself" (1993): With the kick in the bass and the underlying rhythm as the foundation, Tenaglia blanketed Vanessa Daou's wispy vocal with grand, thick chords, a combination of classic groove and modern club-ready depth that was, at the time, entirely new. The title of his 1995 debut artist album on New York's Tribal Records described it perfectly: Hard & Soul. But even if the cocktail was his own, Tenaglia never hesitated to declare how heavily his influences weighed in his productions - everyone from Patti LaBelle to Kraftwerk, with countless lesser-known Soul, R&B, Latin, Samba, and Disco artists in between.
A trio of label compilations - Mix This Pussy (1994) and Can Your Pussy Do The Dog? (1995) for Tribal, and Gag Me With A Tune (1996) for Maxi - were the first Tenaglia sets clued-in clubbers could take home to dissect.
In 1996, after a brief stint at New York superclub Roxy, Danny landed a Saturday night residency at white-hot Twilo, a position that upped his profile but didn't satisfy his expanding artistry as a DJ and producer. While New York swooned for big-room diva anthems, Danny was turning his ear toward the more minimal, tech-y grooves originating in European production studios. This period produced solid remixes like Grace's "Not Over Yet" (1996) and Janet Jackson's "The Pleasure Principle" (1996). In 1998 he moved his residency over to NY club Tunnel.
In 1998 Danny released another full length LP titled Tourism. The album featured the track "Elements," an instant classic. With his own warped voice providing the narration, "Elements" walked the listener through the different components of a dance track in real time, going from kick to drum loop to snare hit, letting each layer over the other until the track exploded with dark, drum-heavy energy. "Elements" was #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart for two weeks in 1998. "Music is the answer" featuring Celeda (also on the LP Tourism) was on the top 40 charts in the UK. Next to ostentatious radio anthems, its simplicity was a revelation.
The release of his first installment in the UK-based Global Underground series of DJ mixes, titled Athens (2000), lit the international fire. Athens (meant to reflect the set he played at the Greek capital's club King Size) remains one of the darkest, strangest, sexiest sets ever released by Danny. Its tame cover photo of a gentle-looking man in a Yankee cap just didn't seem to fit. DJ dates across Europe dispelled the mystery and started to clue people in as to what Danny's sets were like.
Back in New York, Tenaglia was tiring of the cavernous gloom of Tunnel and longed for a weekly home that better resembled where the DJ bug first bit him - the Paradise Garage. He landed at Vinyl, a black-walled, single-environment, no-liquor club about one-quarter the size of Tunnel. He named the night "Be Yourself," after the self-affirming, heavy-bottomed vocal track he had recently recorded with Chicago's Celeda. And he took the name to heart: Without the pressure of bar minimums or an expectant crowd, Tenaglia spread his DJ wings. Next to new tracks he played tracks by the artists who inspired him during his youth. If he wanted to launch into a two-hour set of straight-up techno, he did. If he wanted to play old Michael Jackson records, he did. If he wanted to get on the mic and tell the crowd the name of the sound he was about to play, or who next week's guest opening DJ would be, or just give everyone a "verbal handshake" to welcome them to the club, he did. And a city tired of drama embraced the barebones, music-centered night.
The world caught up to Tenaglia in 2000. His annual party during Miami's Winter Music Conference outgrew its home at the cramped Groovejet and moved to just-opened superclub Space. DJ giants like Carl Cox danced on top of the speakers with the Deep Dish boys, Fatboy Slim mingled on the patio, and for a day the ego inherent to DJ culture evaporated: Tenaglia was hailed as the "DJ's DJ." His roof-raising revamp of Green Velvet's "Flash" won "Best Remix" at the UK's Muzik Awards, where he was also awarded the "Best International DJ" prize.
In the two years that followed, Tenaglia released another Global Underground installment titled London; toured the world, took the party island of Ibiza by storm, remixed Billy Nichols' "Give Your Body Up To The Music" (a Garage anthem); got nominated for a Grammy (for his remix of Depeche Mode's "I Feel Loved," also nominated for Best Dance Song); returned to Twilo for two special gigs - a President's Day marathon with Carl Cox that shattered all its attendance records, and the club's sixth anniversary party with John Digweed, which turned out to be even more meaningful than it seemed at the time (Twilo was shut down permanently a week later); graced the cover of every major dance music magazine; and won a Dancestar Lifetime Achievement award... all while keeping the "Be Yourself" party buzzing every Friday.
In 2003, Danny came full circle with the release of Choice: A Collection Of Classics, a two-CD mixed compilation that let him pay direct tribute to many of the artists who had influenced his sound and style. It featured everyone from Blaze to Adeva to Imagination, as well as hefty liner notes explaining the significance of each track, penned by Danny himself. He also remixed another Garage classic (Yoko Ono's "Walking On Thin Ice," which became her first Billboard number one ever), opened another Space during Winter Music Conference (the new location down the block), and took another Dancestar award, this time 'Best Party' for "Be Yourself."
"Be Yourself" took the same honor again in 2004, but this time the win was bittersweet. At the time of the ceremony, Vinyl, now called Arc, had already been sold to condo developers. Danny closed the classic club on Sunday, April 25, 2004, with an emotional set that lasted well into Monday afternoon, and culminated with his mix of Kings Of Tomorrow's paean to unending love, "Finally."
Since then Danny has remained prolific in the clubs and has graced the decks in all the big rooms in NYC including Avalon, Crobar, Pacha NYC, Roxy and Webster Hall. After a long studio silence, Danny re-emerged in 2008 with a single on Tommy Boy Records, "The Space Dance". It was named in honor of his first weekly residency during the summer season of 2008 at renowned global clubbing institution Space Ibiza. The track reached #1 on the Billboard Club Charts during November 2008.
Immediately following that, Danny released his first compilation album in five years, entitled Futurism, also on Tommy Boy Records, with a nod to the modern dance floor and Danny's outlook for tomorrow's sounds. The compilation featured tracks from artists whom Danny had been championing for several years including Davide Squillace, The Wighnomy Brothers and Afefe Iku.
On Sat March 5, 2011, Tenaglia celebrated his 50th birthday at the Best Buy Theater in NYC. With his name lighting up the theater's outdoor marquee and more than 2,000 people in attendance, the event served as a reunion of artists, fans, and Danny's past musical collaborators.
For the 20th anniversary issue of DJ Mag, the editors selected Danny to mix the covermount cd. It includes some of his picks to represent the last 20 years of dance music. The CD will be released as part of the magazine's June 2011 issue.
After over 30 years of DJing Danny still continues to tour around the world. His commitment to playing new music and incorporating it with music from his past is still a very big part of his performances. After his success he has remained humble and towards the end of his sets can often be seen on the dance floor, mingling and dancing with the same people who came to see him perform.
Darin Epsilon
Darin Epsilon
Internationally acclaimed DJ, producer, radio host, and label owner Darin Epsilon is often referred to as a leader of the Progressive & Tech House scene. His Perspectives radio show and podcast, along with his frequent guest appearances on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio (www.siriusxm.com), allow him to reach tens of thousands of listeners on a regular basis. His SoundCloud page (www.soundcloud.com/darinepsilon) alone has over 400,000 total plays and receives a whopping 10,000 plays per month. He launched his record label Perspectives Digital (www.perspectivesdigital.com) in November 2010 as an extension of the brand, further solidifying his influence and presence within the global dance community. To top it all, he was named one of the winners in John Digweed & Beatport’s DJ Competition during the summer of 2011.
As a gifted student of music from an early age, former record shop employee, and former director of a college radio station, Darin draws inspiration from his nearly encyclopedic knowledge and genuine appreciation of electronic music. He cites a variety of important influences in the past decade, from the early Leftfield and Future Sound of London albums, to the iconic Global Underground compilation series, to the sweeping sounds of Paul Oakenfold circa 1999, to Sasha & Digweed’s mind-blowing Delta Heavy tour in 2002.
Darin’s refined taste in music and natural ear for a catchy tune has translated into the production world as well. He gained the attention of the industry’s elite early on with his first-ever original tune titled Bluephobia. The track debuted on Hernan Cattaneo’s now legendary Metrodance radio show in 2007 and proved to be monumental success, even spawning a series of viral YouTube videos. Following the success of Bluephobia, he continued turning heads with remixes for high-profile artists Matthew Dekay, Chris Fortier, D:FUSE, Kenneth Thomas, and Noel Sanger.
To date, Darin has released music on many of the industry’s most respected labels, including Hope Recordings, microCastle, Perfecto, Armada, Black Hole, Flow Vinyl, Mesmeric, and Baroque Records. His productions have entered Beatport’s Top 100 Progressive House chart numerous times and are featured in the compilations of Markus Schulz and Paul Oakenfold, among many others. He counts Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, John Digweed, Sasha, Dave Seaman, Paul Oakenfold, Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West), Sandra Collins, and D:FUSE amongst his regular supporters.
If you have ever been in the audience to catch one of his live sets, it becomes immediately apparent that he is proficiently skilled as a DJ as well. His frequent flyer miles seem almost continually on the rise with regular tours around the world. He has electrified audiences across the United States, as well as headlined shows in Kenya, Argentina, Russia, UK, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Bulgaria, Peru, Colombia, Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.
Within Los Angeles, where he currently resides, he often plays for the city’s most prestigious clubs, including Avalon (Urb Magazine’s 2009 Club of the Year and 40th on DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs of 2009), Vanguard, Playhouse, and Circus. Over the years, he has shared the spotlight with many of dance music’s superstars including Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, John Digweed, James Zabiela, Sander Kleinenberg, Fedde Le Grand, John Graham (Quivver), Josh Gabriel (Gabriel & Dresden), Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West), Paul Harris (Dirty Vegas), Dirty South, Dave Audé, Morgan Page, and countless others.
However, it would be foolish to say that his achievements have been purely confined to the club setting. Global brands such as MTV, American DJ, American Audio, Elation Professional, and Global Truss have all called upon him to provide the soundtrack to their videos. His music can also be found in the films Ecstasy (www.facebook.com/xtcfilm) and Slip Cue (www.slipcuemovie.com), placing him in a small category of producers that have ever made it onto the big screen.
With hard work, passion, pure dedication to his art, and support from the industry’s most revered names, this Chicago native turned LA transplant aims to prove that this is only the beginning to a long and promising career.
Dash Berlin
Dash Berlin
Dash Berlin is the future.
Dash Berlin is a true deejay at heart with a profound passion for the comprehensive culture of dance music. He is often described as an invigorating and charismatic newcomer, with the unique ability to leave a long-lasting impression upon his audience well after the night is over. Dash is one of those rare individuals that seems to understand the unwritten laws of the nightclub by nature. He keeps his ever expanding, nocturnal following alert, ecstatic and craving for more, with remarkable precision and skill. One could easily mistake him for a superstar deejay. However, the truth remains that Dash Berlin views the world through the same eyes as his public. “It’s virtually impossible to make progress without the continuing support of the people”, he humbly said.
The early years
Dash Berlin was born as Jeff X. Sutorius, in November 1979, in The Hague, the Netherlands. A family with wide musical tastes surrounded him and because of his late father, who was a distinguished drummer in a jazz band; Dash became acquainted with the typical marks of rhythmic music at a very young age. While still at high school, he became a devoted fan of electronic music, regularly enjoying mix tapes that his older sister brought home from the clubs she worked at as a professional dancer.
In his late teens, Dash Berlin started working at a record shop and became a dedicated vinyl collector with a fascination for melodic, synthesized house music, subsequently known as ‘Trance’. Inspired by pioneering figures such as; Sven Väth, Oliver Lieb and Sander Kleinenberg, he slowly but surely started to develop his own innovative style of mixing and producing. His hidden work ethic seemed not to be about producing more, but rather less and differently. It is this vision that still sets him apart in a crowded and highly competitive scene.
Propelled by his passion, he literally performed everywhere, from nine-hour long gigs in shopping malls to the notorious illegal Dutch warehouse parties. During his set on the world famous Love Parade, Dash decided to incorporate the word ‘Berlin’ in his artist name. “It’s an ode to a metropolis and her engaging, urban landscape,” he said, “Where I have seen more than a million people dancing on the streets, in the in the spirit of an ever-evolving Europe”.
The birth of Dash Berlin
In early 2006, he teamed up with fellow producers and close friends, Molijn & Kalberg, who were regular customers at his record shop. “These guys are amazing visionaries and astonishing studio wizards, they are the foundation of my sound”, Dash remarked. “I still learn from them every day.”
Together, they designed an ambitious and unprecedented new sound of Trance, quickly labeled as the ‘Dash Berlin Sound’. Futuristic, scintillating, but above all, moving and emotive music that relates to the universal dance floor experience, shared by innumerable music fans from multifarious cultures around the globe. Although a vigorous believer in political awareness, the message of Dash Berlin is simple; “It’s all about having a good time again,” he stated, “the art of celebrating life resonates inside of everyone”.
In 2007, none other than Armin van Buuren revealed his newfound discovery to the world and featured Dash Berlin’s debut record ‘Till The Sky Falls Down’ on his legendary ‘Universal Religion’ album. The track became one of the most memorable, global anthems that year and remains one of the cultivated blueprints of the new Trance renaissance. The black & white music video that complimented the radio mix was shot in the heart of Berlin proper. The clip grew to be a genuine labor of love, using the latest in digital cinematography, and successfully avoided the typical clichés of contemporary dance music videos.
Expanding the Dash Berlin universe
In the beginning of 2009, under the mighty wings of Armada Music, plans emerged to expand the Dash Berlin universe with his very own label called ‘Aropa’. It represents an eclectic high-quality outlet for Dash Berlin’s avant-garde productions and collaborations. The label also built a solid foundation for rising talent and established like-minded artists. “The Aropa brand holds a deeper connotation too”, Dash revealed, “It also stands for the axiom of sharing art, inspiration and creativity”. The first release was the monster anthem ‘Man On The Run’, which is a prolific collaboration with fellow Armada artists Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren. The track sky rocketed to the top of the international Trance charts and received a prestigious nomination for ‘Best Trance Track’ at the annual Trance Awards.
October 2009 brought the global release of Dash Berlin’s critically acclaimed debut album: ‘The New Daylight’. Besides being a varied collection of styles, it also features instant classics such as: ‘Till The Sky Falls Down’, ‘Man On The Run’, ‘Waiting’ and ‘Never Cry Again’. Each of the individual music videos of these anthems, being pieces of visual art, make up for millions of views on YouTube. With the creation and release of a free Dash Berlin iPhone app, the hard working deejay reaffirms his forward-thinking multimedia mindset.
His dedicated fans actively vote for him when it matters the most. This loyal support already resulted in an astonishing Top 10 position in DJ Mag’s Top 100 of 2011. It also gained him honorable spots on events like Trance Energy and the A State of Trance celebrations, two of the largest and most essential Trance events in the world. These past years of voting rewarded him with several nominations for International Dance Music Awards, resulting in adopting the title ‘Best Hi-NRG/Euro Track’ for ‘Waiting’ ft. Emma Hewitt.
#musicislife
The past four years have all caused a reverberating bang when it comes to the Dash Berlin sound. From the ‘United Destionation’ compilation series, which reflects his recent gigs with a top selection of tracks straight from his record bag into two seamless deejay mixes, to making a great rise in the DJ Mag Top 100, taking in a solid number 7 position. 2013 promises to be another momentous year for Dash Berlin. A year all about the follow-up of ‘The New Daylight’.
With his brand-new ‘#musicislife’ album, aptly named after one of his most popular Twitter hash tags, the ‘Flying Dutchman’ shows no signs of slowing down and is all set for his monster #musicislife World Tour. Dash Berlin’s much anticipated follow-up record contains signature hits such as ‘Disarm Yourself’, which features the angelic vocals of Australian singer Emma Hewitt, ‘Better Half Of Me’ & ‘World Falls Apart’ the epic duology with top vocalist Jonathan Mendelsohn, the magical team up with German DJ superstar ATB on ‘Apollo Road’ and of course exciting new collaborations with artists such as Emma Hewitt, Shogun, Kate Walsh, Shanokee, Chris Madin, Hoyaa and Sarah Howells. British singer-songwriter Howells joins Berlin on his new single ‘Go It Alone’ accompanied by a gorgeous music video shot in South Africa. The video got half a million views within the first week of its appearance on YouTube.

Deniz Koyu
Deniz Koyu
Deniz Koyu has without doubt proven to be one of the most promising talents to watch out for since 2011.
His course to become a musician was set at the tender age of five when he began to learn the piano. It didn’t take long until he discovered his enthusiasm for synthesizers and drums, getting inspiration from artists such as Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk or Cassius. It is no surprise he followed suit, spending his pocket money on all the second-hand synths and drum machines he could find. Through his teenage years, Deniz spent his days DJing and editing his favourite tracks using small tape recorders and sampling what he could.
In 2011 Deniz' single releases "Tung" and "Hertz" on Flamingo Recordings and his remixes for James Blunt's "Dangerous" and Kaskade's "Turn It Down" evolved into huge house anthems at clubs and festivals around the globe, being played over and over by Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, Fedde Le Grand, Avicii, Alesso, Erick Morillo, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, you name it.
Fedde Le Grand voted Deniz "Breakthrough DJ/Producer 2011", Sebastian Ingrosso called him "big time talent", and Axwell replied to the question of a Swedish journalist if he had personal favourites among young DJs: "Deniz Koyu. He makes damn cool music at the moment."
In 2012 MTV added Deniz to their "EDM Rookies To Watch" list, calling him "a blazing new talent" and putting him in good company with Alesso, Zedd, R3hab and Nicky Romero. Deniz was hand-picked by Axwell to play at the world premiere of Cosmic Opera in New York, performed at Ultra Music Festival Miami on the peak of his North America headline tour and got confirmed for his first-ever Sensation White appearances.
Production-wise Deniz kicked off 2012 with a remix for Fedde Le Grand's "So Much Love", a heavyweight collaboration with Fedde and Johan Wedel on "Turn It", and his uber-hit single "Bong". Next up was a new track with Wynter Gordon called "Follow You" and stunning remixes for Zedd, Digitalism, Miike Snow and David Guetta.
Deniz Koyu is starting 2013 in style with the release of his much anticipated release "Halo" with Dirty South on his Phazing label. In February Deniz will launch the "Generation Wild" Tour, taking him to 20 cities in 25 days in North America. March 2013 sees the the follow-up to "Bong": the new EDM anthem "Rage" which will be released on Sebastian Ingrosso's Refune imprint.
So stay tuned, watch out, there is plenty more to come...
Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike
Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike
Whether they’re wreaking havoc across the United States, Europe, Asia, South America or Australia, showering fans with seemingly endless bottles of champagne, ripping up the music charts with immense original tracks, unbelievable collaborations and huge remix cuts from the A-list elite, or playing their part in the incredible rise of the Belgian mega-festival Tomorrowland, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have become leading lights in the new wave of international dance music currently taking the planet by storm.
The brotherly duo, whose electrifying live combination of DJ sets and crowd-busting MCing has propelled them towards party notoriety, have been on the road since the mid-2000s and as each year has progressed, so their profile has become ever more significant. Currently sitting at #38 in the DJ Mag Top 100 and working consistently with the likes of Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, Spinnin Records, Size Records, Axtone, Doorn Records, Wall Recordings and their own incendiary imprint Smash The House, the pair have proved themselves an integral part of modern day electronica. From their early works which include the Belgian #1 ‘Liquid Skies’ and the heavily supported reworking of Technotronic’s classic ‘Pump Up The Jam’, through to recent hits like ‘Madagascar’, ‘Rej’, ‘Alarma’, ‘Momentum’, ‘Loops & Tings’, ‘Generation X’, ‘Ocarina’ plus collaborations with Steve Aoki & Angger Dimas (Phat Brahms), Lil Jon and Coone (Madness), the Swedish House Mafia (‘Leave The World Behind’ Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs. Swedish House Mafia Remix), Axwell (‘One Look’ DVLM & Axwell Remix) and MOGUAI (Mammoth), there remains absolutely no let up in the continual onslaught of high energy production coming out of the brothers’ studios.
But it’s not just their own tracks that continually hit the spotlight. Fast becoming one of the go-to acts for major recording artists, the demand for Dimitri and Mike’s editing skills has gone through the roof. From their debut remix ‘Work That Body’ back in 2009 that caught the attention of label boss Axwell, who immediately commissioned them for Abel Ramos’s ‘Rotterdam City of Love’ and the pre-Swedish House Mafia’s monster hit ‘Leave The World Behind’ by Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Laidback Luke and Axwell himself; to arguably the biggest artist in the world right now, Lady Gaga, who requested the boys’ take on her single ‘Marry The Night’, a remix that within hours of completion was scooped up for Radio 1’s peak-time Friday night show Ready For The Weekend. In between, the pair have reworked everyone from Billboard royalty Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull (‘Papi’), MTV favourites LMFAO (‘Champagne Showers’), Tiësto, Snoop Dogg, Bob Sinclar, Mary J Blige, Sean Paul and more.
If they’re not in the studio, then they’re on the road. With a touring schedule that has increasingly read like the departure board of JFK Airport, they remain one of the most in-demand acts anywhere in the world right now, their unique arena-smashing brand of entertainment seeing them headline the planet’s biggest and most prestigious stages week in, week out. From legendary venues like Pacha Ibiza and NYC and Mansion in Miami to London’s Ministry of Sound and Brazil’s epic Green Valley, to Mysteryland, Nocturnal Wonderland, Creamfields, Electric Daisy Carnival, Beatpatrol, Ultra Music Festival, XXXperience, Touch The Air and many, many more, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike regularly illuminate the top billboards of the hottest tickets around. Yet of all the events Dimitri and Mike bring their act to, it is with the critically acclaimed Tomorrowland that they are most closely affiliated. Enjoying a massively successful partnership that stretches back over the past four years, Dimitri and Mike were bought on board by organisers ID&T after the seasoned industry veterans were blown away by the natural power of the brothers’ debut performance. Since 2010 the boys have been responsible for creating the festival’s musical centrepiece, the much-celebrated Tomorrowland Anthem, and each year have taken the task to greater heights – the collaborative dynamite of Dada Life and Tara McDonald with ‘Give Into The Night (Tomorrow)’; the 2011 Beatport-topping Afrojack and NERVO co-production ‘The Way We See The World’; and the 2012 solo track ‘Tomorrow Changed Today’, which made history as the first ever non-Avicii release on the LE7ELS label and struck immediate chart gold.
It has been without doubt an absolute fairytale story that has emerged from this talented and grittily determined duo from Belgium. With tours taking them back to the US and Canada, South America, across the length and breadth of Europe, through into the heat of Asia and down to the Southern Hemisphere of Australia and beyond, fans can also look forward to a huge run of major hits to come from Dimitri and Mike, including the highly anticipated ‘Wakanda’, the MOGUAI collaboration ‘Mammoth’ and co-productions in the pipeline with Sander Van Doorn and Laidback Luke. As 2013’s dawn grows and expands across the coming months, their story will continue to grow and develop, effectively establishing their place in the pantheon of modern dance music greats.
Dirtyphonics
Dirtyphonics
Innovating in several styles of electronic music and bringing a live PA recognized as one of the most energetic and creative to be seen, Dirtyphonics is a worldwide phenomenon that you can’t ignore.
With an incredible production level, a unique way to mix and blend different genres (electro, drum and bass, dubstep, hip hop, rock…) and a “best newcomers producers” award under their belt, Dirtyphonics is with no doubt one of the most exciting bands in today’s electronic scene.
Charly, Thomas, Pitch In and Pho started travelling the world in 2006 with their incomparable live act, combining the efficiency of a DJ set to the spirit and energy of a rock concert.
In 2008, the band takes a new scope when “French Fuck” gets signed to Shimon’s label (AudioPorn). After its release, the 12” climbs the charts to reach the first place and stays number one for a couple of weeks, bringing them immediatly forefront of the scene.
Quickly after, comes out a series of 12”s, appearing systematically in the top 10 charts.
“Quarks” and it’s audacious rhythm pattern caused a revolution in drum and bass and has inspired lots of producers. On the same EP (“The Quarks EP”) the band shows their versatility (and their ease to work with singers) in “The secret”, with MC Tali. Soon after, “Vandals” and its electro switch lights every dancefloor around the world on fire...
Over a very short period of time, Dirtyphonics tracks are played by the world’s famous DJs of the electronic music scene: Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Andy C, Chase & Status, Pendulum, Vicarious Bliss, Marky, Dj Hype, Kissy Sell Out, Annie Nightingale, Zane Lowe…
All at the same time, the band keeps to intensively tour the world from trendy clubs to huge festivals (Electric Daisy Carnival, Plages Electroniques, Solidays, Starscape, USC events, Les Nuits Zebrées, Summer Festival, Audioriver, Together As One, Nordik Impact, Arena, Government, Metrocity, Brixton Academy, Pirate Station, Glastonbury, Monegros, SXSW, Beyond Wonderland, FSOB…) and in the summer 2010, moved to Los Angeles for their acclaimed “French Do It Better” tour around the USA and Canada.
During this tour, the band starts writing its long awaited debut album while working on a string of remixes such as Shockone’s “Polygon”, the Bloody Beetroots’ famous “Warp 1977”, Nero’s “Me and you”, Benny Benassi featuring T.Pain’s “Electroman”, Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s “Wondering”, Steve Angello and Alex Mectric featuring Ian Brown’s “Open Your Eyes”...
“Parisian crew Dirtyphonics are bucking the trend with a tranche of heavyweight music and an incendiary live show.” Mixmag
The future looks bright and busy both in the studio and on the road, as Dirtyphonics will tour more and more in 2011 and are working days in, days out on genre defying music.
DJ Tory Tee
DJ Tory Tee
Showing an early aptitude towards music, the Milwaukee born Tory Mayek started beat juggling when he was only 13. "It was 'Adidas/Peter Piper' 12 inch by RUN-DMC, and I was hooked from that point on,” he says.
Three weeks after his 15th birthday, he produced his first hip-hop record for the group Def Supreme. “As I grew, so did my thirst for music,” he says. Tory quenched that thirst by diving into producing, regional touring and organizing events.
By 1996, Tory’s Rap-rock band, Bolt Upright, signed with Sony Records and Los Angeles became his playground. The groups’ album “Red Carpet Sindrome” was released in 1998, followed by a U.S. promotional tour. This meant sharing the stage with artists such as Kid Rock, Kottonmouth Kings, Everlast and Staind.
His production work on the first album led to a collaboration and friendship with Grammy Award Winning super-producer Steve Thompson. Together they have worked on a variety of projects from Revelle to the Hollywood Undead, to Snow.
Even with a grueling production schedule closing in on him, Tory refuses to let his passion for spinning live slow down. If you’re hot enough to get in, you can catch him DJing at destination clubs such as Exchange L.A., Colony and Vanguard Hollywood.
Downlink
Downlink
Downlink has been punishing dancefloors all over the planet with his heavy brand of dubstep. With roots in Jungle & DnB, he is no stranger to the vile side of subsonic dance music. Growing up in a cold industrial town in British Columbia, Canada, he was first introduced to dubstep in 2007 and soon after took to production. While maintaining an appreciation for sparse and laid-back dubstep, Downlink set out to explore a more frantic, adrenaline fuelled style, influenced by everything from heavy metal to astrophysics. His first two releases charted at #1 on several popular online distributors and soon he found his way onto Rottun Recordings which seemed a suiting place for his music. With the release of his "Ignition EP" he has gained DJ support from the likes of Excision, Datsik, Stenchman, Borgore, DZ, 16 Bit, Dieselboy, Evol Intent, Crookers and many more. Downlink is not one to be pigeon-holed and is constantly on a quest to evolve and refine his sound. With this in mind, one thing will always remain constant - a pure unadulterated heavy listening experience...

Fedde le Grand
Fedde le Grand
Rare breeds like Fedde Le Grand are few and far between, and so when someone like this comes along it’s right that the world sits up and listens. He’s a Dutchman blessed with such talent that keeping up to speed with what he does is a task in itself.
It could be said Fedde came out of nowhere, riding off the success of a hit record. Well, to set the record straight; this couldn’t be further from the truth. Le Grand has spent the majority of his earlier youth grafting, spinning records in his Native country and cutting tracks until the inevitable happened. Put your hands up for Detroit was produced in the bedroom, released by one of the biggest labels in dance, and it enabled Fedde to step out into the world of Electronic Dance.
His abilities in the studio are endless. Together with his good friend and production partner Funkerman, they’ve churned out some immaculate material that has slotted into an absolute cross section of fellow DJS. The Flamingo Recordings imprint now stands as one of the most forward-thinking and exciting labels in EDM, with top flight acts eagerly hanging on for news of new releases and remix work.
Fedde’s production talents have been called upon by the great and the good over the past few years. 2008 sees him work with two major music acts, Grammy Award-winning Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am, and Madonna – the name says it all. Famed for picking up the hottest talent, Madonna mixed Put your hands up for Detroit with Music for her recent promotional tour, to rapturous response, but the queen of pop didn’t stop there. Next came an invitation for Fedde to remix Give it 2 Me, the second single from the album Hard Candy. Fedde now joins a select group of producers to work with the Queen of Pop, including Mirwais, William Orbit and Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont. The ultimate seal of approval if ever one were needed and straight from the queen of pop!
Add to all the above Fedde’s rammed DJ diary, including his residency at world-famous Pacha Ibiza, countless festivals and headline gigs around the world, and it’s clear that this is man who has conquered his game, plans to stay there for a long time to come. With his debut artist album Output released in the second half of 2008, he is set to storm the international music charts and cement his position as a household name. Flinch
Flinch
Los Angeles based beat maker Adam Glassco, better known as Flinch, is no stranger to the EDM world. A veteran producer who has progressed effortlessly from his beginnings in drum & bass and then electro, to current endeavors into jump-up and deeper, more melodic synth-based dubstep. Fury w/ MC Dino
Fury w/ MC Dino
Drum & Bass is a culture with one eye fixated on the future. To achieve longevity within the scene a DJ must stay two steps ahead of the general public. The arsenal needed to achieve this task comes in the form of exclusive tunes and an acute ear for "the next sound". Since 1991 DJ Fury has not only met, but surpassed all these criteria.
Steve Blakley began the metamorphosis into his moniker of DJ Fury while snow boarding professionally in the early nineties. It was during this time that Blakley attended his first few raves and was introduced to DJ culture. Reluctant to assume the role of spectator Blakley soon purchased turntables and unknowingly took the first step of his new career. By 1992 Blakley had begun to play the sound of hardcore U.K. breakbeats at events around the Denver area under the guise of DJ Fury. By the next year this sound had began to transform into an early prototype of what would be known as Jungle. Fury shifted with the new sound seamlessly.
From this point forth the Denver Jungle scene snowballed along with Fury's DJ career. The year of 1995 saw the birth of the notorious Rewind series by Lowerworld which catered purely to up front Jungle. These events began to receive attention nationwide thus providing a huge stepping stone in Fury's career. Slowly but surely his reputation of providing the best tunes with flawless mixing began to spread from city to city. From there, Fury continued to expand his growing fan base by maintaining a rigorous DJ schedule rinsing out cities such as Los Angeles, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco, and many others. Despite this intense travel itinerary Fury still managed to hold down Denver by throwing monthly events (now known as Reload) and co-hosted one of the longest running weekly's in the nation (Breakdown Thursdays).
Currently Fury designs for and runs the internationally acclaimed graphic design company, The Firm Graphics, in between his DJing and event promotions. He is a resident DJ for Insomniac's Bassrush, their drum & bass division, and the Reload events are still running strong and picking up steam again in Denver. One thing is for sure - you can always count on some dance floor smashing drum and bass whenever he hits the stage.

IndO
IndO
Raw, vicious and complex only begin to scratch the surface of the unique sound of rising producer known to fans as simply, IndO. Leaving listeners in a state of awe with one relentless beat after another, there no doubt about the bright future of this young musician in the world of dance.
Coming from a humble upbringing in Northern California, IndO was first introduced to the piano at the tender age of seven. After proactively learning scores upon scores of the most advanced classical pieces, he eventually broke away from the black and white of the keys and found passion in the high-energy motions of rock music. With years of experience in classical music, it didn’t take long for this musical wiz kid to master nearly every aspect of the electric and lead guitar. As a versatile and talented musician, IndO began touring the country with Versus Us, playing alongside artists like Amber Pacific, Sherwood, and Quiet Drive.
After a good run in the world of rock, IndO’s attention was turned to the rising scene of dance music. With major influences from the likes of Dillon Francis, Major Lazer, Leon Bolier and Armin van Buuren, IndO began training himself in the complex art of sound design and music production. With a passionate heart and an uncanny work ethic, it was 6 months in before his music began earning the respect from superstar DJs around the world.
With the year in full swing, 2012 has proven to be a monumental year for this rising artist. Releasing his first tracks on DLA Recordings titled “Bottles on Me” and “I Wanna”, IndO soon gained the attention and support of the Manufactured Superstars. Seeing the potential in this young producer, IndO was offered to sign his latest track, “W.L.I.F.A,” to their famed label, Manufactured Music.
James Egbert
James Egbert
Although James Egbert has been writing and producing music for most of his life, it wasn’t until 2011 that he decided to jump into the world of EDM where he has quickly established himself as one of the most talented up and coming artists in the scene. Perfecting the heavy bass sounds that drive electro house and dubstep bangers, James adds an important emphasis on musicality and attention to deta il that has allowed his tracks to stand out among the rest.
After locking in his very first live performance on the main stage of Global Dance Festival in Colorado, he has made a habit of setting the bar high for himself and has since shared the stage with some of EDM’s biggest names including Avicii, Wolfgang Gartner and Zedd.
2012 has so far been a break through year for the tireless producer. The self-release of his 6-song EP “In The Beginning” on Fuzion Muzik topped the Electro House, Dubstep and Progressive House charts on Beatport as well as reaching #2 on the Top 100 releases. Shortly after following up the success of his EP with a single on Bazooka Records, “Legion”, which reached #15 on the Electro House charts, James was selected as a winner of Insomniac’s Discovery Project which earned him a slot on the biggest electronic music festival in North America, Electric Daisy Carnival.

Jamie Jones
Jamie Jones
Jamie Jones has achieved in the space of a few short years what many producers try for a lifetime. Turning his hand to a variety of styles while still maintaining a strong signature sound, Jones has created an admired musical identity and a loyal global following.
One of techno’s rising stars, Jamie Jones is part of a new guard of house and techno djs who resonate as artists, party people, djs, and live acts. Raised in Wales (which most people don’t hold against him), Jamie’s university days in London helped launch his infatuation with club culture that would bring him to Ibiza during the summers.
Ultimately relationships forged and those island summers helped him become an integral cog in thriving music scenes in Ibiza and later East London, where Jones’s bustling djscandance warehouse parties and regular gigs at Fabric helped him make his mark in London during his winters. During the summer, gigs and residencies like the Space Terrace, Manumission’s Music Box Room, and later DC10 (a club he frequented as a one of the first regulars in his early days on the island) helped him gain a foothold in the Ibiza Scene while defining a sound that was uniquely, electronic, soulful, and bouncy, with a consistent groove. During one of these summers in Ibiza, he played his creation Amazon, to Freak n’ Chic boss Dan Ghenacia who signed it on the spot.
Amazon, when released, was well received and immediately drew Jones favorable comparisons to luminaries like Mathew Jonson and Carl Craig and went on to become the labels biggest selling record. Jamie followed that standout release with recordings on leading labels like Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Cocoon, Poker Flat and far too many more to mention. Consistent to his production quality are low wobbly basslines, dissonant and hypnotic keyboard lines, crisp snares, and the aforementioned steady groove.
Since Then, Jamie’s relationship with Crosstown Rebels has grown. 2009 saw him release Summertime EP, which went on to become the labels biggest selling single. He also had the unprecedented accolade of having 3 tracks in the Beatport top 10 concurrently. His Debut album ‘don’t you remember the future’ also on Rebels has been hailed by Press and Dance Music critics across the globe as the best electronic album of the year.
In 2009 I released my debut Album "Dont you remember the future" which has been one of the biggest dance albums of the year.

John Dahlbäck
John Dahlbäck
John Dahlbäck is further testament to the theory that when it comes to overly talented musical homelands, there could indeed be something in Sweden’s water. Born in 1985 in a small village near Stockholm, he landed his first record deal aged just 15 while most of his peers were just discovering clubs. Just a few years later he was already the proud owner of a worldwide respected label, had a string of well-known productions to his name and a reputation for quietly turning out some of the best house melodies you could hope to hear.
With a family background boasting more music than the Von Trapps it’s no surprise he was instantly hooked – his mum sings in a jazz band, his dad drummed in a prog rock band, and various aunts and uncles played piano, guitar and more, so he was hardly stuck for inspiration or opinions to help him get started. Learning the basics on his dad’s Atari computer he soon established his own style, and his second demo, a jazz-influenced, deep house number called Night Flash, earned him a record deal with Route 33.
After five successful years running his Pickadoll label, John started his own label "Mutants", “I had a real vision about the label,” says John Dahlbäck. “I can hear within a couple of seconds whether a track will fit, and I love doing this kind of organised work – sending out promos and looking for licenses – otherwise I’m just a slave to the studio!”
Although primarily an outlet for John's more experimental tracks from the studio, about 20% of Mutants' output is made up of other artists signed by John. "I like to combine sounds and styles and I still want that emotional twist, but I love the playful and sometimes experimental vibe of house."
His last album called “Winners And Fools” came out in September 2008, and described by John as “the one I’m most proud of. I’ve done a lot in the past and there have been some amazing moments. When the single “Blink” started to get big in France and I was making the video it was a huge moment, but every time I do a track now I feel I’m improving. For John Dahlbäck, his agenda for making and playing music is simple. “I’m quite calm when I DJ, I don’t want to be ‘showy’ - I love to play for dancing people, to really see them loving the tunes. And I love to make the tunes that get them dancing…”
Now, in 2011, John Dahlbäck has several songs on Toolroom, Spinnin’, Defected, Versuz, Big Beat/Atlantic NEWS, Universal GAS, Universal Nordic, Ministry Of Sound Australia and One Love/Sony Australia. His latest single featuring Erik Hassle "One Last Ride" (with remixes by Tommy Trash & Felix Cartal among others) has already been added to National Radio in Sweden and played by the Swedish House Mafia on their Pete Tong Radio1 show.
This year he has also remixed Lady Gaga, Nicole Featuring 50 Cent, Skylar Gray, David Morales and Sneaky Soundsystem among others.
Already for 2012 John will be releasing a Mix Cd for Tool Room Records in January with several other releases coming out every month.
John Digweed
John Digweed
Some DJ careers are built on hype. John Digweed’s career is built on substance. One of the planet’s most popular DJs, his sets never fall out of favour with clubbers the world over, as his relentless global gig schedule testifies. From ethereal, swirling cinematic soundscapes to energy-infused bass-bothering tech growlers, a new generation of clubbers are learning what we already know - that there’s nothing quite like being locked into a John Digweed set.
But John Digweed is much more than a DJ. Bedrock – his record label, promotions company and production partnership with Nick Muir – is a mothership of creative ingenuity and integrity that other labels orbit around. His vision for the Bedrock record label has been realized over 12 years, as he continuously seeks out mixes and remixes from the world’s best producers. Techno mainstays like Marco Bailey, Christian Smith and John Selway sit comfortably alongside hot new talent like Guy J in the Bedrock camp.
In a dance scene increasingly inhabited by inflated egos and gimmicks, John’s approach remains all drive, no drama, a heads-down crack-on attitude that has won him the respect of his peers. However, the fact remains that John Digweed has notched up a mighty list of groundbreaking achievements since he first became involved in the embryonic acid house scene as a 15-year-old lad in Hastings. From Top 40 smashes ‘Heaven Scent’ and ‘For What You Dream Of’ (with Nick Muir) to world renowned mix CDs for Renaissance, GU and Northern Exposure, it’s little surprise he was voted No.1 DJ in the World by DJmag readers in 2001.
Ten years on, the excitement John Digweed generates is even more palpable today. With Nick he has scored a Hollywood film (Stark Raving Mad) and Spiderman`s animated series for Sony/MTV. toured with David Bowie and Moby, and transformed Brighton Beach into the UK’s biggest beach party (250,000 people) with Fatboy Slim. His Transitions, Bedrock and Structures albums continue to turn new fans on worldwide, Bedrock’s recent 12th birthday party at London’s O2 Brixton Academy was a road-blocked sell-out and his Transitions radio show is one of the world’s most successful dance music shows, broadcast across 45 countries to a staggering weekly audience of over 14 million.
But the real beauty in John Digweed’s story lies in his unflinching belief in the music he plays. And with new music comes new chapters in an already astonishing career.

He stumbled into the world of house music at the age of 8 with Daft Punk's Discovery, after studying classical piano for several years. Justin was invited to play at the 2010 DJ Mag Top 100 party in London, opening for Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Fedde Le Grand and others, but could not perform because he was under 18. Off the momentum from the contest, Justin landed an apprenticeship at Atlantic Records with DJ Frank E working on dance-infused pop and hip-hop. Manufactured Superstars
Manufactured Superstars
ou‟re not dreaming. This is real. The club you‟re in feels as though the entire building is the VIP area, not just because of the lingerie models wearing black nerd-glasses piling over you to reach another bottle of bubbly, or the gyrating wall-to-wall moshpit that‟s the dancefloor. Tonight feels special because the DJs – the engine of the party – are rockin‟ it like you‟ve never imagined. Oh, and they‟re wearing matching NASA spacesuits and there‟s a six-foot-tall teddy bear onstage hyping the crowd like a maniacal MC. The DJs are MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS, and tonight is every night. MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS are BRADLEY ROULIER and SHAWN SABO.
As DJs, their performance style is as high-energy, accessible and fun as it is technically challenging. Although their DJ performances have been described as “mash-up” or “open-format” by many in the music press, what they really do is create a non-stop tornado of happiness when they spin. This can be evidenced by the countless smiling faces in their crowds and the consistently sold-out shows.
As owner of Denver‟s esteemed Beta Nightclub, ROULIER also understands venue operations better than most DJs who‟ve never needed to worry about profit-and-loss statements. Whether they are DJing the mainstage at outdoor festivals (i.e. Identity Festival, Nocturnal Wonderland, Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, the Beatport Pool Party during WMC/Miami Music Week, Red Rocks/Global Dance Festival, Lief Festival) or playing the world‟s best superclubs (i.e. XS Club in Las Vegas; LAVO, Pacha and Greenhouse in New York; Fluxx and Voyeur in San Diego, Playhouse in Los Angeles), when MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS take the stage, the party has officially begun.
The MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS have long been technologically savvy, and technology coexists organically in their everyday lives. ROULIER is a co-founder and founding member of leading digital music retailer, BEATPORT.COM. SABO was an original employee of BEATPORT and he remains a member.
Formed in 2006, the MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS cut their teeth in the American club scene of the late-„90‟s. Previous pseudonyms included “B-Rad” for ROULIER and “DJ Sabotage” for SABO, monikers they no longer use. Both are experienced producers; ROULIER was also a leading club promoter in Colorado, and SABO traveled the U.S. as a popular drum-and-bass DJ with more than 20 commercial vinyl drum-and-bass releases to his name. Today as MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS, they hold down vital club residencies at prime spots including XS Club at The Wynn in Las Vegas and Beta Nightclub in Denver. It‟s not unusual to hear the pair blaze through 100 or more tunes in the span of a two-hour DJ set, and those sets often traverse from mainstream pop to underground prog-house to urban-infused electro and beyond. The duo is ever expanding their radio mixshows and podcasts, and their thrilling club mixes can be heard on top terrestrial, satellite and webradio stations around the globe.
Twenty-eleven has been a busy year for the MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS, and as always, presentation is key. From their costuming to the visuals used in their shows, the moment fans spot the matching NASA spacesuits, music-lovers know the party is on! The cosmos have welcomed the MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS with open arms, as exemplified by their unprecedented shows at the Kennedy Space Center in Washington DC in 2009, and in 2011 at the private event celebrating the inaugural launch of the Virgin Galactic space port.
The MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS have received high-octane boosts from within the gaming industry, too, by having their music and avatars featured in the social-networking, geo-based- location video game, BOOYAH‟s „Nightclub City: DJ Rivals.‟ (To date, Nightclub City boasts more than 20 million active users worldwide.) The MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS inked a recording deal with the venerable Black Hole Recordings, helping to bring the duo to the forefront of the global EDM scene with a steady flow of new releases and critically acclaimed music videos, including the first singles from their forthcoming as-yet-unnamed studio album: “Angry Birds” and “Drummer Drums”; “Take Me Over” featuring Scarlett Quinn (video directed by Christopher Andrews); “Serious” featuring Selina Albright; and “Drunk Text” featuring Lea Luna. Both “Take Me Over” and “Drunk Text” have received immense support at radio, including charting on SIRIUS XM RADIO. An E.P. titled Freak On You (Black Hole) is scheduled for release during Thanksgiving 2011; and the latest single, “Silver Splits The Blue” featuring Christian Burns is slated for a Christmas 2011 release. Plans are also underway for a full-length studio album in 2012, in addition to the duo‟s relentless touring.
Said SABO of MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS‟ core philosophy, “We just wanna play great tunes and be the funnest DJs out there!”
Mark Knight
Mark Knight
Mark Knight’s legacy already ranks him as a leading player in dance music culture. His rise to the forefront has been more than just gigs and remixes; his contribution to the scene via his label Toolroom Records, demonstrates abilities that supercede the glorified title of ‘DJ’.
This year, with a Grammy Nomination for work on the Black Eyed Peas’ multi-platinum album ‘The-End’, 3 of the biggest selling records on Beatport’s ‘Best Sellers List’; ‘Music Matters’ ‘Flauta Magica’ & ‘Good Times’, an IDMA nomination for his Toolroom Knights weekly radio show and a prestigious Beatport award for his single ‘Good Times’ - 2010 has most definitely been a year of colossal achievement.
So where did it all start…
In 2004, with a personal vision for house music, Mark created his own workshop for 21st century dance musicians, Toolroom Records, and with it a new way of thinking.
Since its launch, the Toolroom imprint has developed into an uncontrollable beast, celebrating success as the biggest selling label on Beatport and reaching the milestone of 100 releases in 2009 courtesy of Faithless.
As a producer, Mark has built a reputation for outstanding releases; ‘Man With The Red Face’, ‘Downpipe’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Devil Walking’, consistently topping international dance charts, and has been involved in producing tracks for leading artists, including new output from Faithless and contribution to the latest Underworld album.
And there’s more…
As a DJ, Mark holds international prominence, recognised the world over for his extended 7 hour sets, headlining festivals and clubs from Ultra Music Festival Miami to the Terrace at Space Ibiza.
In 2006, Mark’s belief and desire to inject freshness into a stale club scene, inspired him to programme his own parties, this concept became a reality with the launch of Toolroom Knights at Ministry of Sound, London in October ’06.
Having gained unrivalled success as one of THE superior club nights, Toolroom Knights has gone on to generate great global success and support with Mark headlining Toolroom residencies at Cocoon Frankfurt, Space Miami, Ministry of Sound London, Pacha New York as well as hosting Toolroom arenas at key festivals including; SW4 London, Global Gathering UK, Dance Valley Netherlands.
All in all, it’s been a BIG journey for Mark Knight, pioneering a sound and attitude that’s gained respect from fans and industry people alike hungry for the integrity of Mark’s production skills and quality of Toolroom Knights’ parties. And there’s so much more to come.
Mat Zo
Mat Zo
“This whole genres business is like the Berlin wall, and I’m there with a forklift and a wrecking ball” Mat Zo
At 22 years of age, Mat Zo is part of a new breed of precocious, unrestricted DJ/producers that are making big noises without the one-dimensional genre blinkers of old. In the last 12 months alone, the London based producer has seen his boundary-blurring productions like “Bipolar” and his latest missive - the big room melodic funk anthem "Easy" with partner in crime Porter Robinson - dominate the Beatport charts.
DJs as varied as Skrillex, the Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto and Above & Beyond hammer them at the biggest events on the planets, while Zo himself spends his time zig-zagging across the planet – rocking the crowds at events like Electric Zoo in New York, Audiotistic in LA, Creamfields Australia and London’s SW4.
As anyone who follows his colourful twitter feed will know, Zo is a ranter as well as a raver. Laid back but full of creative fire, he’s still the music obsessed joker that his mates have always known – but somehow seems like an elder statesman at the same time. As a prodigious teenager, he took both the drum & bass (he records for Hospital as MRSA) and trance scenes by storm. Now armed with a discography of hits that would put some of the longest standing producers to shame, he has gone on to remix pop princess Kylie and become a leading light in both the drum & bass and trance scenes – occasionally topping the Beatport charts in both genres at the same time.
With “The Bipolar EP” finding its way into the sets of A-Trak, Afrojack, Porter Robinson, Steve Aoki and Roger Sanchez, Zo has proved his chameleon-like capabilities to find fans in whatever sound he turns his hands too. A recent Beatport #1, "Easy" (with Porter Robinson) has been clocking up BBC Radio 1 play from Pete Tong, Zane Lowe and Annie Mac.
With his recent 70-track Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 journeying from Burial to Sasha and Daft Punk to Noisia, Zo’s kaleidoscopic creativity is now ready to be unleashed in full force through the release of his debut album in summer 2013. With everything from French house to hip-hop planned for the album, Zo’s genre-wrecking visions are set to be realised in the most explosive manner imaginable.
Mediks
Mediks
Comprising of Ross, Dan and Rob, the Bristol based Mediks represent an exciting new force to the bass music scene. A talented trio of producers ready to showcase their energetic, adrenaline fuelled take on Drum and Bass, Mediks have already enjoyed an unbelievable rise to prominence.
After meeting one another through the thriving Bristolian Dnb scene Ross, Dan and Rob soon found themselves working together on a creative level. After an inspired studio session that saw the trio write dancefloor weapon ‘Nightmare’, the three like-minded musicians realized they were on to something. Within a few weeks, Mediks were formed, and ready to release their debut EP on Shimon’s innovative Audioporn Records.
A combination of technical excellence and experience with a generous dose of creativity, Mediks work in an organic, spontaneous way – something that shows in their full on beats and bold bassline.
Having previously used their talents writing and producing for a glittering roster of pop acts, the accomplished Ross and Dan teamed up with Rob to form Mediks – a rowdy three piece set intent on infecting the DnB Scene. Drawing on relevant, contemporary influences such as Koan Sound and Knife Party, as well as old school veterans such as Pendulum and Noisia, Mediks produce music in similarly cutting edge way.
For Mediks, the secret to making vibrant, energetic music is the chemistry between the members, and the overwhelming desire to make something fresh, new and original. Always on the lookout for new ideas and sounds, Mediks have been known to think well outside the box, creating new sounds and ideas as they go along. One example of this creative flair is on Outbreak, the opening track to their impressive debut release on Audioporn Records. After creating a thick horrific atmosphere, the Mediks decided the finishing touch would be the sound of zombies munching on flesh, and recorded themselves eating crisps to capture the perfect sound.
With their debut EP on Audioporn Records featuring the funky ‘Outbreak’, fast-paced ‘Nightmare’, soulful ‘Blown Away’ and rowdy ‘Doomsday’, the Outbreak EP is the first release from a group set to go on to even bigger things – and with the might of Audioporn behind them, Mediks are ready to infect dancefloors worldwide.
Mitchell Claxton
Mitchell Claxton
Born and raised in Calgary, Canada, Mitchell Claxton is the next Canadian to burst onto the trance scene. After growing up with mainstream music, Mitchell had already begun to show signs of his preference of dance music after he noticed artists like Darude, Daft Punk and Dirty Vegas playing on the radio and quickly favoriting them.
After years of disinterest in most music, Mitchell was introduced to Trance in 2004 by his sister. Right then he was hooked and before he could think about it, he started producing in Spring of 2006 and got his first pair of turntables in August 2006.
After nearly 3 years of improving his sound and his DJing skills through the advice and guidance of various internet friends that he met on the Anjunabeats Forum, Mitchell has had mixes played on Sense.fm (last set of the year on NYE 2007) and Tranceradio.ch. In January of 2009, Mitchell signed his first progressive trance release to Ora Recordings.
In 2009, Mitchell’s producing tastes started to shift towards more harder tech trance and uplifting trance. His solo work has been recognized by labels such as Proxoz Recordings, Claudia Cazacu’s label Couture Records, and Paul Trainer’s Spellbinding Records. His work has also received very positive comments from some well respected artists on labels such as Discover, Vandit, Conspiracy, Alter Ego, Enhanced and more!
In April 2010, Mitchells track ‘Ouranophobia’ was playlisted by Paul Van Dyk on his Vonyc Sessions radio show, further cementing Mitchell’s status as a producer to look out for.
In 2010, Mitchell signed to Paul Trainer’s ‘Spellbinding Records’, for a remix of Paul Trainer’s ‘Overflow’, and for Mitchell’s single ‘Lumin’.
When Mitchell is not working solo, he is probably working in his collab with Ryan Mendoza under the alias ‘Breakthrough’. This refreshing collab combining Tech trance and Uplifting trance has created a remix that has been accepted by Enhanced Recordings for Digital Society Recordings and Breakthrough have alot more to bring to the table with in progress original productions.
Mitchell and Ryan have also begun a radio show on Sense.fm entitled ‘Tragic Tales’ which airs every first and third sunday of the month at 2:00 PM CST
Monstergetdown
Monstergetdown
MonsterGetDown is two; Eliazar (Charlie) Torres and Steve Corona. The two were born and raised in Los Angeles, California but did not meet until years later when they both attended the same high school in 2008 and became very good friends and listened to a variety music. In that same year they discovered electronic dance music, listening to artists such as Green Velvet, Surkin and PUZIQUe. Overtime to deadmau5, Paco Osuna, Stimming, Sebastien Leger, Format:B, Freshizm and Tim Green.
This unique tech house producer duo stumbled upon Ableton Live 8 Suite in the spring of 2010. Later that year they began to produce a blend of electro/tech house music and shortly after, Monstergetdown was born. 2011 was spent putting much time into producing prominent tracks. Even with about two years of producing their sound seems to only progress more and more each day. Keep an out eye out for this productive tech house duo and their big sounds. Monstergetdown.
Morgan Page
Morgan Page
Morgan Page has certainly come a long way from his native Vermont. Leading up to his third full-length album, In The Air, Page has enjoyed many “firsts.” A little more than a month since its release, In The Air surpassed year-to-date sales of his two previous releases - 2008’s Elevate and 2010’s Believe – hosting Page’s first #1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart and his first gold single.
Page began crafting this collection in early 2010. In between stints on the road, Page assembled an all-star cast of guests to appear on these original tracks. That cast includes Tegan And Sara on "Body Work" and "Video," Jonathan Mendelsohn and Andy Caldwell on "Where Did You Go?" Greg Laswell on "Addicted", and a powerhouse combination of BT, Sultan, and Ned Shepard and Angela McCluskey (Télépopmusik) on the record's first single "In the Air." The lead track rises from an elegantly enticing electro haze into an infectious hook, moving from progressive house into propulsive pop.
While on tour in Montreal, Page visited Sultan, and Ned Shepard in the studio. They played him music that was the basis for "In the Air," and he instantly knew McCluskey would be the perfect vocal fit. Volleying from BT's kettledrum into gorgeous synth swells, the song is as expansive as it is enthralling. Page called McCluskey down to his own studio, and she took an equally unique approach to penning the lyrics.
"She sat on my deck clipping out magazine headlines and they became her initial concept for lyrics," reveals Page. "Each verse builds towards a similar theme, and it tells a story. The song is about capturing the excitement of being in the moment."
The mega-collaboration resulted in a #1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart that sat on the chart for 25 weeks. Despite a long history of Top 10 successes -- "Longest Road," "Call My Name,” “Fight For You” and “Strange Condition” – “In The Air” is Page’s first #1 single. When asked by Billboard Magazine about his career achievement, Page humbly answers, “it just got an immediate genuine response from people that blew me away.”
"Body Work" marks the first time that Page has collaborated with Tegan And Sara for a new, original tune. He's remixed numerous cuts for the indie stalwarts, but they actually teamed up from scratch this time around. The results are nothing short of entrancing.
Page goes on, "Tegan And Sara tapped into this '80s-inspired feel and went with it. They come from a different mindset, and they wrote these lyrics that people will immediately come back to. Pretty much all of the songs on the record are different mutations of a love song, and they put their own spin on that."
“Body Work,” entered the Top 20 at Canadian Pop Radio and remained on the chart for ten consecutive weeks, earning both Page and Tegan And Sara their first gold single. At iTunes, “Body Work” spent five week in the top 10 “Dance Songs,” while the accompanying video was added into rotation at MTV, MuchMore, Musiqueplus and MuchMusic, and consequently, featured as the “Recommended Video Of The Week.”
There's a story behind every song. Richard Walters actually contacted Page unsolicited for his collaborations, while the album's cover of The Police classic, "S.O.S. (Message in a Bottle)" sees the DJ flexing his own vocal muscles on a vibrant interpretation.
With the help of electro impresario Andy Caldwell and vocal sensation Jonathan Mendelsohn, "Where Did You Go?" segues from seductive synths into another massive dance floor-made refrain, while album closer "Addicted" sees Page pushing boundaries again by incorporating the soulful stylings of vocalist, Greg Laswell.
Page remains a powerful presence in the electronic music scene. He made a name for himself with 2005's collection of bootleg remixes, Cease And Desist. Getting the blogosphere chattering, he began carving out a niche. In 2008, he dropped his formal debut Elevate, which spawned one of his biggest hits to date "The Longest Road" featuring songstress, Lissie. The Deadmau5 remix of the track was nominated for a Grammy (Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical) in 2009. His sophomore effort, 2010's Believe, saw him continue to garner even more critical and fan acclaim.
The accolades didn't stop there though. In 2011 his remix of Nadia Ali's "Fantasy" received a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. In the meantime, he also received four International Dance Music Award nominations, including 2012’s “Best American DJ (North America)” alongside Skrillex, Deadmau5 and Kaskade.
While touring and dropping records, Page managed to produce close to 300 remixes for everyone from Madonna and Katy Perry to La Roux and Florence + the Machine. Most recently, he's remixed legends Daft Punk ["Solar Sailor"] and Underworld ["Diamond Jigsaw"]. His other recent remix collaborations include work with Adam K and Bass Kleph.
About his remix style, Page explains, "You want to take the mix to a different level; you don't want to simply imitate the original. Daft Punk and Underworld were big influences. They got me into music in the first place so that was such an amazing opportunity."
The new album sees Page evolving into an inspirational powerhouse in his own right. He builds his own space in the middle of the pop and electro worlds sonically. He affirms, "This record exists between the club and pop worlds with a little bit of indie thrown in there as well. I wanted to try some new flavors and attitudes, while keeping my sound intact. At the end of the day, it's really about the song. I want to make sure these songs stick in your head. While I was working on the album, I had the chance to road-test a lot of this material, and it was effective for the dance floor."
Page has ignited crowds around the world and at crucial festivals such as Coachella Arts And Valley Music Festival (90,000-capacity), Electric Daisy Carnival (142,000-capacity), Spring Awakening Festival (61,000-capacity), Electric Zoo (25,000-capacity) and more.
It's not only his first appearance at many of the festivals, but it's also the year that Wynn Las Vegas signed him for a prestigious yearlong residency alongside other artists like Tiësto, Deadmau5, Afrojack and Steve Aoki.
"Touring really changes your sound," he adds. "The more you play live, the more you see what's working globally in different venues. You sculpt your sound around how the crowd is reacting. At the same time, the live show is definitely evolving too. There will be a lot more audience interaction and production value on the upcoming tour... It's important that people have a good time and come back for more."
With In The Air, the Los Angeles-based artist strikes a brilliant balance between kinetic house music and blissful, radio-ready pop. Touting club anthems with the right dose of indie and pop flourishes, Page creates a danceable, diverse, and deep collection of songs. "I want people to play it over and over again," concludes Page. "I want them to sing these songs back to me when I'm playing live. I want to make music that lasts."

Myon & Shane54 with Aruna
Myon & Shane54 with Aruna
Myon & Shane 54 are one of the brightest stars of the so-called new generation of dance music producer / DJs.
Coming from Hungary, the duo have achieved serious success in the international dance music scene; an achievement no artist had done before from their home country. In less than 2 years after they started making music together, the pair were voted into DJMag's Top 100 DJs at #91. They've been producing for the biggest names in the trance scene, are a constant fixture in their record boxes, and the combined sales of everything they've done way exceeds the million mark.
Their story started in 2008 when Myon & Shane 54 decided to join forces. By the end of the first year of their existence, they were already household names of the scene with a notable amount of releases and a couple of Beatport number ones behind them.
2009 saw them playing their first big, international event, their ASOT 400 opening set was listened live by millions of trance fans all around the world.
They started their radio show and podcast, International Departures right after the party. The episodes quickly became very popular, partly thanks to the unique approach of shameless mashing up, something of a trademark that has become synonymous with the Hungarian duo. Their extensive tour diary serves the backbone to the International Departures TV Show, a first person view on the life of traveling DJs.
In 2010 they released their first album International Departures Soundtracks - a collection of songs that defined the era and mood of the first season of the TV show. It includes exclusive tracks, remixes, a fine - however far from complete - view on the first 2 years of their career.
Myon & Shane 54 are well known for their different take on dance music, which definitely makes them stand out from the mostly genre-conscious DJ scene. Through the quality of their releases, they already proved that these guys are something to reckon with, and they're here to stay providing a unique sound, that is truly theirs only.
Neon Indian
Neon Indian
Neon Indian is the brainchild of Alan Palomo, who's 2009 debut record Psychic Chasms not only earned the 20 year-old a spot on numerous year-end lists, but assisted the forming of a genre that, though known by a few names now (hypnagogic pop, glo-fi, chillwave), summoned a very unique and specific electro-mangled sound. Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and SPIN all praised Palomo for his adventurous new sound, and he was tapped to perform at top festivals like South by Southwest, Bonnaroo, and Sasquatch and also scored opening slots for bands ranging from Massive Attack and The Flaming Lips to Phoenix and Chromeo.
After nearly two years on the road off the success of his debut, Palomo returns this fall with his proper follow-up LP, Era Extraña. This time around, we see a darker shaded sound document that tosses somewhere between an 8-bit shoegaze record and peering through the fence of a teenage apocalypse drive-in flick.
Written and recorded last winter in an efficiency apartment in Helsinki, Finland during its short solstice days, Era Extraña was ice sculpted from arpeggiated synth-scapes and scribbled journal entries made during his stint there alone in constant solitude. "It's the closest you can get to feeling like you're at the edge of the earth," he says. "And there were moments where I lost sight of what I was really there to do."
The sample-happy stylings of his previous efforts have been traded in for acid-stained commodore 64 jams (See 'Polish Girl, 'Future Sick') and bit-pulped guitar sludge ballads (see 'Hex Girlfriend', 'The Blindside Kiss'). All throughout, the undulating moods of the record are guided by a haunted three-part instrumental titled Heart: Attack, Heart: Decay, and Heart: Release. Once completed, the layers were then thawed and reassembled by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT), who mixed the album and did additional production with Palomo at his upstate Tarbox Studios. The album sessions there were briefly taken on a scenic detour by a drop-in four-song EP collaboration with The Flaming Lips which was released earlier this year.
The album's Spanish title plays with the loose-hinges of the word extraña, which not only directly translates into 'strange', but also means to 'command the act of longing'. These themes of feeling an eerie absence in new strange times are explored throughout the album as a whole in his teenage ethos peppered lyrical musings in an end-days obsessed climate. Many of this is inspired by an ongoing love affair with the notion of what cyberpunk means in a year like 2011. The feeling can best be described in a recent interview where he noted, "We're now living in the era mysticized by a lot of future-geared 70s and 80s cinema, but it's definitely not quite how they imagined it."
Era Extraña is slated for a September 13th release on Palomo's own Static Tongues imprint in conjunction with Mom and Pop Records in North America, Transgressive Records in the United Kingdom and Europe, Pop Frenzy/Inertia in Australia and Big Nothing Records in Japan.
Nicole Moudaber
Nicole Moudaber
A true force to be reckoned with as a DJ and producer, Nicole Moudaber’s rise through the ranks of the DJ elite has been swift, purposeful and striking.
Propelled by her flawlessly executed, sleazy, edgy house and tough, soulful techno sounds, she now sits at the very forefront of today’s exciting international EDM scene.
She’s spent weeks at the top of the Beatport Techno Chart with her remix of Carl Cox’s ‘Chemistry’ on Intec, dropped killer tracks for labels including Drumcode, 8Sided Dice, Kling Klong and Waveform Recordings, while remixing the likes of Santos, Martin Eyer, Mauro Picotto, Fergie and Bart Skills.
Pretty much a perfect artist career curve to date, and a downright fantastic achievement seeing as it all began relatively recently.
Hitting New York after a youth spent in Africa and the Middle East, Nicole initially explored her passion for electronic music as a promoter, bringing the NYC style parties she loved to Beirut for the first time, then booking huge acts for her Soundworx nights at London’s legendary Turnmills club and running Southeast Recordings.
But it was the decision to dive in and start to DJ and make music herself that was prove the most important. Once she unleashed her creativity, everything simply went ‘boom’.
Carl Cox identified her as exactly the kind of fresh talent he wanted to have playing at his weekly nights at Space in Ibiza, where Nicole has now DJed regularly alongside him for three seasons.
Requests for guest mixes on both Carl’s and John Digweed’s internationally syndicated radio shows followed, as did a prestigious mix for Adam Beyer’s show where she was chosen to celebrate the epic ‘15 Years of Drumcode’ release (which features a classic slice of Moudaber techno on its high caliber tracklist).
Pete Tong named Nicole a rising star on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Selection, while her music regularly picks up the support of DJ royalty like Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Danny Tenaglia, who was so impressed when he DJed with Nicole that the two of them have been working in the studio and threw the most talked about party of the summer together at Ibiza’s exciting outdoor venue Ushuaia.
With further residencies in Ibiza, dates worldwide from Brazil’s Rock In Rio festival to headlining at Montreal’s famous Stereo and two residencies in New York City for 2012 at Cielo and Pacha NYC, Nicole’s reputation for groovy main room mastery has taken hold everywhere.
Meanwhile plans for launching a label of her own – to be known as MOOD Records – plus plenty more exciting releases on labels including Anja Schneider’s Leena Music imprint all ensure that amazing career curve points ever upwards.
Norin & Rad
Norin & Rad
Hailed as the “Breakthrough DJs/Producers of 2011″ by Above & Beyond, Bruce Karlsson and Nick Sember have hit the ground running. Better known in the EDM scene as Norin & Rad, these two Southern California boys are really showing the world their unique take on trance.
Their collaboration with Thomas Cresine aka Recurve titled “The Gift” pushed them right into the spot light. Being only the second release on Tritonal’s Air Up There Recordings the track came in at #2 on the Beatport trance chart. It was even played on Armin Van Buurens massive ASOT 500 show by Armin himself among others. They immediately followed with remixes for world famous record labels such as Anjunabeats, Enhanced Music and Armada. One of their follow ups, a remix for Estiva’s track “Better Days” featuring Josie, was also played at Global Gathering 2011 by Above & Beyond. Coming hot in 2012 and already doing damage to the dance floors. Norin & Rad’s “Bloom” takes its debut on Trance Around The World 400 hosted by Above & Beyond themselves.
As for their DJ sets, they’ve rocked the stage along side the biggest names in EDM today such as Markus Schulz, Super8 & Tab, Cosmic Gate, Andy Moor, Mat Zo and the list goes on. Their first festival debut for Insomniac Events was no different. The boys really showcased their live skills as they went on for a dominating 4 hours leaving no time to rest the entire set.
Theres no telling where this talent will go but we can be sure of one thing, Norin & Rad are here to stay.

Sebastian Ingrosso
Sebastian Ingrosso
Sebastian Ingrosso is that rare thing in the world of dance music: a musician who understands the world of melodies just as much as he understands the power of the kick drum.
Sebastian’s father owned two record labels, and from the tender age of 14 Ingrosso could be found in the studio producing music. His first official remix was released on Mega Records in 1999 and for over a decade Ingrosso has been releasing a steady stream of original tracks and remixes. In 2009, Sebastian, Dirty South and David Guetta produced ‘How Soon Is Now’ with Julia McKnight, which has become a modern day vocal house classic. Other tracks include ‘Leave The World behind’ on Axtone, ‘Umbrella’ on Data, ‘Laktos’ on Refune, an amazing re-edit of ‘Swimming Places’ from Julian Jabre on Defected, Royksopp and Hard Fi’s ‘Suburban Knights’, the searing remix of ‘Jack You’ with Steve Angello for Diddy and Felix which was approved by Sean Combs himself, MGMT’s ‘Kids’ and most recently Miike Snow’s ‘Silvia’. 2010 saw him co-write and co-produce ‘Cupid Boy’, one of the key electronic anthems on Kylie’s new Number 1 album.
As head of A & R for his label, Refune, Sebastian is constantly discovering and developing new talents such as Style of Eye, AN21, Max Vangeli, True Identity and his most recent signing, the exceptional Lune.
Sebastian Ingrosso’s achievements as a DJ are no less impressive than of those in the area of production. From his first gig in a small pizza restaurant in small town Sweden, 2009′s residency at world famous Sensation White saw him regularly performing to crowds of 25,000 all over the globe and 2010 has seen more smash gigs in Australia, USA and Brazil, not to mention countless countries throughout Europe. DJ Mag’s 2009 Top 100 poll placed Seb at Number 25, the highest new entry.
After the amazing achievements of the past few years, some may be forgiven for thinking the future could not get any better for Ingrosso but his ambition, not to mention talent, show no signs of abating. He has recently launched his new live visual concept and rumours are rife that he is producing the new album of a hot young female artist.

He has shared the stage with the likes of Morgan Page, Manufactured Superstars, and many others playing his style of big progressive house melodies mixed with hard hitting bass.
Showtek
Showtek
SHOWTEK have always been instigators of musical debauchery, the brothers that hit hard and clean. Their first album, 2007’s “Today is Tomorrow” launched the duo into the forefront of the hard dance scene, and cemented their status as the worlds most innovative within the genre.
Relentless touring followed as the brothers continued to refine their sound and live shows and released their second award winning album in 2009. Sell out appearances in the US, Holland and Europe began catching the attention of the worldwide EDM community, and it wasn’t long before SHOWTEKS true brilliance was revealed and they start touring intense around the world which has proven their sound and live shows are second to none.
In support of their Ministry of Sound (2010) double compilation album entitled “Fuck the System”, a DJ/Live performance, in-sync visuals paired with a live singer and jaw-dropping special effects is what set them on the highest level of performing artists. Unlimited Productions (also the tour production company behind Tiesto and Ferry Corsten to name but a few) take this extreme live show to the stadium level and will undoubtedly catapult this already successful duo into superstardom. The FTS tour is already one of the most talked about EDM experiences to date. With shows coming up in all corners of the globe, their sold out solo FTS event at Glasgow’s 02 Arena is already legendary.
The duo has been slammed with accolades from the word go. They became the first act in their genre to record a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix; they received many awards, including ‘Hold Us Back’ being awarded The Beatport Award for ‘Best Selling Hard Dance Track of 2008’. One year after Showtek stunned all their opponents and won every award in their category; ‘Best Track’, ‘Best DJ’, ‘Best Album’, ‘Best producer’ and ‘Best Compilation’. Showtek’s massive track ‘Raver’ was featured on the soundtrack of the international blockbuster ‘Bruno’, the Sacha Baron Cohen movie. In the following year they where asked to host their own stage at huge European festivals like; Dance Valley (Netherlands) Electrocity and performed on Creamfields UK and even stopped by on Ibiza for Judgement Sundays.
It’s fair to say that Showtek has been taking over the world of late, having recently debuted in the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 poll. The brothers have been one of the most talked about music groups in the EDM world, with a buzz around them that’s reaching a fever pitch when rumors get confirmed when was announced they will perform on the same stage with Canada’s favourite son, Deadmau5 for one monumental New Years Eve party. High profile festivals across the world are now cueing to book them on their 2011 stages.
Very few artists in any genre ever reach the pinnacle of success that Showtek already have accomplished. But for these dynamic brothers from Eindhoven, this is truly just the tip of the iceberg.
Simon Patterson
Simon Patterson
Currently ranked #42 in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll 2009, Simon Patterson is an artist who has confirmed his elevation into the trance super-league with a series of white-hot productions and jaw dropping dj performances.
Simon's first solo offering was the well received ‘F-16’ but followed it up with the now legendary club smash ‘Bulldozer’ which brought him to the attention of every trance fan the world over. Simon has to-date racked up an unprecedented 11 consecutive #1’s on Beatport (also sweeping into the #1 position on most other download stores). Little wonder then that releases such as ‘Thump’ and ‘Somethin’s Up’ (collaboration with Sean Tyas) continue to tear up playlists around the world. His current offering, a double A side 'Miss You' and 'See You Soon' released on Spinnin' Records in February is the latest of his chart topping productions. With follow up releases ‘Taxi’, ‘Mood Swing’ and ‘Back Stab’, Simon continues to produce music of the very highest standard!
With Radio 1’s Judge Jules, Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten and Sander van Doorn amongst his most loyal supporters, it is easy to see why leading publications such as DJ Magazine, Mixmag, Notion and Tilllate Magazine are all tipping him for even greater things....
Exclusively signed to Spinnin’ Records (home of Sander van Doorn!), his music is some of the most powerful and innovative found in trance circles today. This feat of musical excellence is regularly reaffirmed by the legion of fans who adorn t shirts and banners with his name at festival and club dates the world over. Be it in Holland or Australia’s Trance Energy, Poland’s Sunrise Festival, Mexico's Eurofest or St Petersburg's Global Gathering, Simon continues to grace the decks at some of the world’s finest club and festival stages. Annually taking in up to 150,000 air miles his tour schedule reads like the departure board of a major international airport. Renowned for his memorable dj performances, Simon is a keen advocate that “musically it’s about creating experiences”, which is perhaps why he was invited by 3 x world number #1 DJ Armin van Buuren for his ASOT400 and ASOT 450 gigs showcase the very best talent in the scene. 2010 also sees Simon closing the main stage at the world renowned Trance Energy in front of 25,000 trance fans. Citing countries like Australia, Argentina, Canada, Poland, Russia and USA as some of his strongest territories, it is clear that Simon Patterson has become a truly global phenomenon.
Simon notched up his first Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 at the end of 2009, whilst this year has already seen him mix and compile a disc for Technoclub in Frankfurt's compilation as well as being one of the first in line to mix one of Gatecrashers forthcoming digital compilations. With the summer festival and Ibiza season already shaping up to be another crazy period, Simon has firmly cemented himself as one of the scenes most prominent and respected DJ and producers.

Slogun & iOh
Standing at the forefront of the new generation in Drum & Bass, Slogun & iOh are making serious waves with their upfront, new school sound. Hailing from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, their original productions and remixes have regularly climbed the Beatport charts and caught the attention of the global Drum & Bass community. Recently their list of DJ supporters has grown to include major names in the genre, like Planet of the Drums, John B, DJ Rap, Random Movement, GeneticBros and more. With no slowing down in sight, Slogun & iOh are set to change what everyone thinks about American Drum & Bass.
Snareophobe & Starfighterz
Snareophobe & Starfighterz

Since then they have built a reputation as an act that never fails to blow up a crowd with their high energy live sets. “This year we’re completely re-working our live setup, focusing on heavy squeeze bass lines and cider drenched funkapellas… on a kind of Junglist John Connor comes back in time to rescue Hip-Hop, kind of vibe.”
Deep in the Bristol underground the pair have been preparing their new live show to be unleashed in summer 2012. Performances are guaranteed to be laced with.
Soundprank
Soundprank
Ontario native Colin Fisher, better known by his artist name, Soundprank, has seen meteoric success in the past two years in the genre of progressive house. Trained from a young age in classical piano and jazz drums, Soundprank's productions frequently feature a sense of instrumental realism and melodic complexity. Best known for tracks such as The Far Side and Beginnings, Fisher's productions provide a breath of fresh air in an industry moving towards more commercial and accessible electronic music.
Despite having only been producing for three years, his initial interest in electronic synthesis and sequencer programs combined with his classical training sparked the desire to create highly melodic and more recently, driving progressive music. Aiming to compose music that evokes a sense of excitement reminiscent of old school electronic music combined with the balanced, lush and atmospheric sounds more prominent in modern EDM, the originality of Soundprank's music is undeniable. His innovative take on retro-futurist sounds has charted him numerous times on Beatport's Progressive House Top 100 and much of his discography has been released on Anjunadeep, including multiple features on Anjunabeats 03 and 04 compilations.
Fisher's music has been featured extensively on Above & Beyond's Trance Around the World and he has hosted Anjunabeats Worldwide multiple times on top of receiving massive support from the likes of Marcus Schossow, Myon and Shane 54, Jaytech and Tiesto, who featured none other than his very first release –Sand- as well as Khomha's remix of his collaboration with Dezza, Signals, on Tiesto's Club Life. Further projects include work with Jaytech on the progressive gem Pranktech, a number of collaborations with Boom Jinx (including Pieces Of The Puzzle, released on Anjunadeep) and some very noteworthy remixes. Despite Fisher’s rapid rise to the top of the progressive music scene, there is still much more to be seen from this young and very talented artist.

Los Angeles based producer/DJ. Releases on petFood, Amadeus Records, and Avotre.
"Throbbing bass, bubbly synths, intricate vocal work and sampling, spot-on grooves and percussion, filtered pad work. It takes you deep– very deep– but in a friendly sort of way that Steve is carving out as his signature. I’ve always loved what he does with the vocal samples that he combs the sonic world to find, and he’s got a hauntingly good sense of atmosphere that is at this point unmistakable." -Gotta Dance Dirty"

Subfocus dj set
Subfocus dj set
From hearing one of his tracks for the first time inside a club in 2003 ('Strobe', rewound twice by Andy C at The End) to headlining Glastonbury in 2010 (Saturday night on the fabled Glade stage to a rapturous reception), Nick Douwma's rise through the ranks of underground jungle to become a major player in electronic music has been nothing short of spectacular. Initially known for air-punching, dancefloor dismantling drum & bass, Sub Focus has now become synonymous with music that draws from all corners of the electronic landscape, and has come to epitomise the ‘anything goes’ mantra of todays flourishing dance scene.
London born and bred, Douwma’s rise into the furthest reaches of the dance music stratosphere began when he first encountered jungle, at high school in the mid-Nineties. A friend played him a cassette featuring General Levy’s hit ‘Incredible’ and Douwma, at that point playing bass in a rock band, was completely taken under it’s spell. Shortly after this first introduction, The Prodigy - who were beginning to meld rock and dance music in new and exciting ways - also became a massive influence and the young Sub Focus began to lose interest in his studies and started spending more and more time in his bedroom in Holloway, creating music.
His ascent turned onto a steep axis, when in 2003, he signed his first tunes to d&b’s biggest label Ram Records, off the back of a CD:R handed to label boss Andy C by one of his friends whilst drunk. Despite this inauspicious introduction, so impressed was the legendary DJ by the music on it, he duly signed every track and invited Douwma to join the Ram family. Sub Focus’ tunes - expansive, fiercely creative, but made with the scientific precision of a military warhead - immediately stood out from the crowd and were soon being rotated by every major DJ in the scene, garnering airplay on mainstream radio, and drawing fans from throughout the globe. Singles like ‘Airplane’, ‘X-Ray’ (which reached number 60 in the national charts) and an all-conquering remix of The Prodigy’s ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ meant that by 2007, Douwma was one of the biggest names in drum & bass
The next logical step was an album. But as he’s shown throughout his short career already, Douwma wanted to push himself further and create something that was more encompassing than the often insular confines of drum & bass. Drawing on his love of all strains of dance music, from 80s synth pioneers Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre, through dance leviathans The Chemical Brothers, to futuristic house and techno acts like Lindstrom and Matthew Dear, his eponymous debut album released in 2009 featured not only drum & bass but dubstep, old school breakbeat, bumping house and lashings of electro and rock, all brought together in a taut collection that could only have been made in the 21st century. It was an instant hit. The monstrous, Daft Punk-influenced album opener and first single ‘Rock It’ broke into the Top 40, with second single ‘Could This Be Real’ doing similar damage. The stunning 'Splash', featuring the vocals of Coco Sumner soon followed, and due to insatiable demand Douwma was called in to remix the likes of Deadmau5, Empire of the Sun and Dizzee Rascal by the end of 2009.
The walls and boundaries that once separated the different areas of dance music for so long have seemingly disappeared in the Noughties, destroyed by a new generation of clubbers and producers who are creating and consuming music in a completely different way. Sub Focus’ sound is the perfect reflection of this, with all categories of electronic beats brought together into a luminous, cosmic melting pot. He recently co-wrote and produced the track 'Kickstarts' for UK solo artist Example, which peaked at number 3 in the national charts, and he has also transferred his debut album into a stunning live show, playing festivals throughout the world, joining Pendulum on tour, and in 2010 wowing the revellers at Glastonbury.
The unforgettable show on the Glade stage was in many ways a conclusion to the first chapter in Sub Focus' story. He has conquered drum & bass, created a ground-breaking, era-defining album, and has brought new school dance music further into the mainstream spotlight thanks to his unmissable live show. Douwma is already hard at work creating his sophomore long player, and given his track record thus far, it may well revolutionize dance music all over again. But then, would you expect anything less?
Super8 & Tab
Super8 & Tab
Only a select number of modern trance artists can convincingly say they are taking the sound to the next level. Although the humble, softly spoken duo would never shout it out themselves, Super8 & Tab are undoubtedly among them.
Renowned for their innovative approach and intricate production values, the Finnish producers have stealthily pushed themselves to the front of the trance pack since coming together in 2005.
DJs like Armin van Buuren, PVD, Above & Beyond & Ferry Corsten regularly smash their tracks both club-side and on the radio, while global dance bibles such as Mixmag and DJmagazine laud them with 5 star reviews.
Through their own energising DJ sets, Super8 & Tab themselves have conquered some of the biggest club brands in the game. They headlined the Future stage at this year’s Trance Energy, recently played Australia’s Future Music Festival and have also rocked trance totem poles like The Gallery, Mayday, Godskitchen, Trance Energy and A State Of Trance. On home turf, they command a legendary residency at Helsinki’s legendary Hallmark club and also find time to hold down a regular spot on the monthly Anjunabeats Worldwide radio show.
Now an integral part of the Anjunabeats family, Super8 & Tab first caused a fervour with the breakthrough success of tracks like ‘First Aid’ and the definitive ‘Helsiniki Scorchin’. Since establishing themselves as the label’s best selling artist behind Above & Beyond, the Finnish trailblazers have delivered trance of the highest quality ever since – their ethereal epic ‘Suru’ was picked out by DJmagazine as “the tent-pole release of Anjuna’s summer”, while ‘Elektra’ conquered the download charts and festival stages with equal aplomb in 2008.
In 2009, their star rose further still when German trance godfather Paul Van Dyk requested them to remix both his ‘New York City’ anthem and the equally large ‘Nothing But You’, while Ferry Corsten requested the magic Super8 & Tab touch on his vocal anthem ‘Made Of Love’. Crowning a year of unchecked success, it was little surprise when Super8 & Tab broke into the DJmagazine Top 100 for the first time at #82.
Now with the arrival of their debut artist album ‘Empire’, Super8 & Tab are elevating to the grander stage they were always destined for. Drawing on the diverse vocal talents of Jan Burton, Betsie Larkin, Alyna and Julie Thompson, ‘Empire’s 11-track journey sees Super8 & Tab stamp their distinctive skills on deep, brooding vocal anthems, classy downtempo excursions and futuristic trance fusions – with plenty of their trademark forward-thinking melodic sound besides.
An instant classic it prompted Mixmag to say “It’s a rare and wonderful thing to be blown away by an album on first listen. And that’s exactly what Super8 & Tab’s debut artist album does.”
And with comments like that, maybe they don’t need to sing their own praises after all.
The Beat Kidz
The Beat Kidz
Named for their love of music and unwillingness to grow up, The Beat Kidz combine the live drums of punk rock with the heaviness of bass music to create a whole new musical experience.
Duncan Johnson, originally from Salisbury Wiltshire in the UK, flew across the pond at the young age of 16 to become a tour manager and live the American punk rock scene. Johnson became a staple in the Vans Warped Tour circuit as a tour manager for several popular touring artists. However Johnson, who began drumming at 15, always knew his true passion and dream was playing the drums, not working backstage.
While on Warped Tour Johnson met Nico Hernandez and found that they shared a common interest in both punk and electronic music. Hernandez, a So Cal Native, was fascinated with the Los Angeles EDM scene and was taking part any way he could. You could find him at every EDM event, promoting on the streets of Hollywood and producing & DJing electronic dance music throughout Southern California. The two instantly decided they would combine their interests and talents to create a whole new approach to EDM music. Taking note from their idols Travis Barker and Skrillex the two sought out to create a new live drumming experience with Bass music style. Their creation was The Beat Kidz a group that is dedicated to the idea that music should always be about bringing people together.
"We want the crowd to feel like they too are part of the group, it is so important to us that the crowd is having as much fun as we are!" - The Beat Kidz
Armed with their bootleg remixes, DJ skills and live drums The Beat Kidz are set to take Bass music culture into new frontiers.
The Prototypes
The Prototypes
After an astonishing rise to fame DJ and production duo The Prototypes have rapidly become the most recognized name among the 'new breed' of drum and bass artists. Accredited as amongst the freshest and most exciting talents to emerge in recent years its no wonder that leading lights 'Shogun Audio' signed them up
With a trademark big room sound support for The Prototypes has come from all areas including Andy C, Friction, Sub Focus, Roni Size, Fresh, Pendulum and more. 2011 saw The Prototypes tear apart the Drum & Bass scene gig by gig & track by track, performing up and down the country & touring Australia & Europe. Firmly cementing their place in the scene as top DJ's & producers.
It needed to be a big release to follow up their huge anthem 'Cascade' but when the massive 'Born to Rise EP' dropped on Shogun in October 2011 it tore up the rule book on debut releases. Title track 'Born to rise' smashed raves worldwide and received support from the who's who of the bass music scene , and the anthemic 140 bpm old skool rave mash up 'Taking me over' received massive play on BBC Radio 1 from the likes of Zane Lowe and Annie Nightingale, proving that there is more depth to these boys than meets the eye. With all this going on its no surprise that remix work for The Prototypes came in the form of Snoop Dogg, Ed Sheeran, Avicii & Sebastien & Modestep...scoring them A-list play on no other than MTV's famous dance channel 'MTV Dance'.
Top DJ agency 'Coda Music Agency' moved for The Prototypes at the tail end of 2011 and with the well oiled machine of Shogun Audio behind them the future for this act is looking very very bright.

Urulu
Urulu
Growing up amongst a somewhat “unconventional” musical background in his parental influences than most uber-cool house producers these days would admit (Mom being a soft rock fan and Dad blaring out the WWE theme tunes), Urulu (the cloaked pseudonym for LA based Taylor Freels) somehow happened upon kindred spirits offering a sound alien to his own influences in the form of electronic music producers, an insatiable fascination from an early age which he confesses still holds the same childlike allure and intrigue now as it did back then. Utilizing a combination of cerebral, haunting vocal samples, which are the product of endless hours of late-night YouTube digging, and infusing luscious deep chords and low-slung basslines, Urulu strikes the balance between musical contemporaries KiNK and Catz ‘N Dogz , and offering more than a passing nod back to some of the soulful 90s house heavyweight producers such as Roy Davis Jr and Moodymann.
With evocative and emotive productions showcasing a stripped back, classic feel, Urulu’s sounds are a throwback to the lost generation of smoother groove-makers. His DJ charts and sets also showcase a wide and all-encompassing appreciation for all things electronic; the archetypal producer/DJ. The man himself prefers not to be bogged down in the constantly sinking marsh of pigeon-holing and sub-genres which are polluting the contemporary electronic music industry; make no mistake about it, this is unashamedly soulful, infectious, warm house music in its rawest and purest form.
Vibeshock
Vibeshock
Hailing from Mexico City, Javier Jauregui (VIBESHOCK) has quickly rose to become one of Los Angeles' most sought after dj's and remixers. After pumping out several releases on smaller labels, he was picked up by Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label for his massive hit 'Invasion', which Oakenfold supported by opening every set worldwide in 2009 using the track as his signature intro. Around that same time in 2009 he met Embarcadero Records founder Donald Wilborn, who, having passed on the 'Invasion' demo, released Vibeshock's debut 'Who's The Channeler' E.P., followed by the singles 'Eternal Bliss' and 'Illuminate'. Also in the works was remix work for Perfecto Black, Supercool, Boink Music, Filthbox, and several others, in addition to touring under the Perfecto banner. 2010 and 2011 found VibeShock expanding his catalogue with the Embarcadero Records group, with Donald Wilborn releasing the seminal 'Tri-Polar' as well as marketing Vibeshock's sound through the Embarcadero Collection series of compilations. This year also saw a one-sided release on Dub Tech Recordings entitled 'Autumn Vibe'. Up next was another smash single, 'Double Take', a collaboration with Arizona's top talent Sean Essex, as well as his biggest to date single, 'Serenity', a joint effort with fellow Perfecto maven Barrington Lawrence, both marketed and promoted under the Embarcadero brand. He joined good friend Narcotix for the club anthem 'Catalyst', turning in one of his best remixes to date. When he is not touring the Southwest and California region, Javier finds himself locked in the studio, whether its remixing, original tracks, mixing sets, or collaborating with like-minded artists. In his own words: "Growing up with a mother who sang and a professional drummer as a father, I was constantly surrounded by music. It was very influential. It helped me develop my musical skills at an early age, as well as the understanding of music theory and all the elements involved." - VIBESHOCK
W&W
W&W
Quote of Armin van Buuren early 2010:“W&W are truly the rising stars of trance. If I have to put my money on somebody, I put it on W&W.”
Introduction:
What started as a chance meeting at the 2007 Trance Energy has, in just under 4 years, solidified into one of the freshest, most exciting electronic dance acts on the scene. With it has come a new multifarious trance sound that, globally, has begun to shatter underground clubs, arenas and festivals. Banding together under the name W&W has seen the collective careers of Ward van der Harst & Willem van Hanegem go into overdrive... As spinners they’ve delivered due damage to club nights and festivals and in both 2010 and 2011, their A-list-hammered track portfolio saw them conclusively tip the ‘next big thing’ scales. Now, in the new decade, W&W are ready to rule.
Ready for ‘Impact’
2011 sees the guys embark upon a new adventure. In September, the debut album of W&W will be released on Armada Music. ‘Impact’ has all the essential W&W sounds to blow you away and take you in at the same time. Including some very exciting collabs, but never losing the essential W&W strength, ‘Impact’ is set to rule speakers and headphones alike.
W&W Productions:
The serendipitous Trance Energy meet quickly bore their debut W&W production, which came in the form of the mighty ‘Mustang’. ‘Arena’ followed up its freshman success and fast found the CDJs of luminaries like Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn & Judge Jules. Tipped by Armin van Buuren as “the best up-and-coming production duo out there”, W&W have continued to rock federation trance to its core with ‘Mainstage’, the Sean Tyas-remixed ‘D.N.A’ each bringing floors to critical mass. Followed by singles ‘Manhattan’, ‘Impact’, ‘AK-47’ and the very first vocal anthem ‘Three O’Clock’ featuring Ana Criado, W&W is in excellent shape for debut album ‘Impact’. Remix-side, their voracious rewires have proved equally as popular - most notably on Armin’s ‘Rain’ and those of, Aly & Fila, Allure, Marcel Woods & others.
DJs:
Almost a year to the day since Willem & Ward first shook hands they quickly took up the spinning mantle. That route has taken them to some of the most respected nights out there. Ones that have come to include Poland’s Sunrise Festival & Entrance, Trance Energy, Tomorrowland, the A State Of Trance 450 and 500 gigs, Several Global Gatherings, Nature One and clubs like Ministry Of Sound London, The Guvernment Toronto & Amnesia Ibiza to name a few.
The Mainstage Radio Show:
Now a regular standing fixture in the trance enthusiasts listening schedule, W&W’s Mainstage radio show exports their diverse sound around the world every week. Mainstage is all about showcasing the freshest music and exposing new talent to the world. Broadcasting weekly on Sirius XM, Kiss FM (Ukraine), Dance Paradise Radio (Brazil) and bi-weekly on the renowned Afterhours FM. In and amongst the intriguing Mainstage ID feature, where every week they’ll be playing a track so hot-damn fresh-off-the-desk, it can’t even be named, you'll also now be able to vote in... Most Wanted! Through the fan forum you'll be able to pick you favorite track of the fortnight and vote on it. The winner will be duly crowned 'Most Wanted' on the following show.
YOBILL
YOBILL
In a world of dance music that's become increasingly homogenous, YOBILL sticks out like lumpy milk. It all started in 1999 with a Roland JX-3P Analog synth and a boombox, where making bass line techno consisted of tirelessly overdubbing cassette tapes. Combining a musical background of marching in drum corps with an insatiable passion for technology, the drive to make dance music came naturally. In 2006, while studying abroad in Barcelona, YOBILL discovered modern club culture and the rest is history. He has graced the stage at BLOW UP! SF, Electro Pop Rocks, Avalon and Exchange LA playing his signature sound of groovy techno and bass line booty. With productions featured by Judge Jules on BBC Radio 1 and supported by Nick Monaco (Dirtybird), TJR, ///Bones and Mikey Lion the future is looking awfully bright for the California grown producer. What you get with YOBILL is a DJ that doesn't drop bombs on the dancefloor, he picks up the dead.
